To me, and you do not have to share my opinion, "A Life Well Lived" is, all about embracing the "Now" with awareness, attention and mindfulness. And, of course, it is all about the dance and opening up to whatever fun and excitement awaits.

So for me it is particularly wonderful to be back at BRISTOL HARBOUR, to see the past year's improvements. It is delightful to sit on our refurbished beach once again, swim in our pristine lake and play tennis and pickle ball with many friends and neighbors. I love seeing families sitting together, children digging in the sand, building sand castles and roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. How lucky we are to live in the "Chosen Spot".

I visited the Susan B. Anthony House, recently. While I was there, I came upon the Story of Two Wolves and am sharing it with you now.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

I am happy to say that BRISTOL HARBOUR is full of thoughtful, caring people who strive to make life more enjoyable for all. Many thanks to the volunteers of the Rec. Committee. They plan parties, kayak outings, bonfires, and pickle ball tournaments. Thanks to all who help with Naples Open Cupboard. Thanks to the shuttle drivers and the landscaping and library volunteers. Thanks to those who donated kayaks and paddle boards. Thanks to our recycling gurus and those who follow the recycling rules. Last, but not least, thanks to those who submit photos and articles for the Villager. I could not do it alone.

Please consider sending in book or movie reviews, poems or articles of interest to all. I need your help as the Villager is more interesting with varied content!

June 4 Collection Event for the Naples Open Cupboard

We had a very successful food pantry donation event on Saturday, June 4, at the Community Center. Volunteers from Bristol Harbour were on hand to collect food, clothing and household goods from over 25 donors who stopped by. We brought 5 vehicles full of donations, including a microwave and more to the Open Cupboard. Many thanks to all of you who donated as well as to those who provided operational expertise and muscle power!

The Naples Open Cupboard serves many families in the Naples area. While it receives food deliveries from Foodlink in Rochester, it depends greatly on the generosity of its neighbors. Bristol Harbour volunteers hope to host another collection event in early to mid-August for a "back-to-school" kickoff for the Cupboard. Please stay tuned for the date, time and the type of items we will be looking for. Thanks again for your generosity and hope to see you next time!

Cathy Colby took the photo above of the Bristol Harbour residents who helped at the June 4 collection event: Ron & Liz Smith, Brian Mulrenin, Vicki Carlisle, Bella Stahl, and Eileen Mulrenin. Not pictured are John & Linda Bergquist and Wendy Hanwell who also helped that day.

The Bristol Cliffs Yacht Club held its annual Welcome Back Brunch at the Canandaigua Yacht Club on June 5, 2022 with a sold out crowd. Our Club is open to boat owners and non boat owners alike as it is a recreational club dedicated to social activities and fostering a sense of community. Indeed I pointed out that I myself had sold my boat this year meaning that both myself as Commodore and the Russian Navy no longer had a flagship!
Wade Sarkis, ( son of Bristol Harbor founder Fred Sarkis) and a board member of the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Foundation, gave an interesting talk about the inception of Bristol Harbor and current issues facing our watershed.
We, as a Club, have reluctantly concluded that we could not hold our annual Boat Parade nor Bristol Daze this year without access to adequate restrooms. We do plan on resuming those events next year. We also plan on having our annual Octoberfeast and Holiday party this year.
We have reserved the Canandaigua Yacht Club for next year's Welcome Back Brunch on June 11, 2023. Club membership remains a bargain at $10 per person per year with most of our events subsidized by the Club treasury for members (and there’s never a litigation surcharge).
We do need to recruit new members to help work on events and a new Vice Commodore to eventually become Commodore. Old Commodores never really die, they just fade away but are always available to help the new Commodore!
On behalf of the entire Executive Committee of the Club we wish you all a happy, fun filled and safe summer!
Your Commodore,
Mark Moretti
