"Blessing Always"
Association Minister Message

CONFLICT. It is disturbing to read, see, and hear about all the hostilities that are taking place in our families, communities, and nations. Even in faith communities there are disagreements that have led to anger, clashes, and divisions. Kindness, mercy, humility, and respect are lacking in the public and religious dialogue and interactions with one another, especially to those who are oppressed because of their diversity.
In the June 2025 Sojourners magazine, a question is noted, “How does one live joyously in the face of oppression?” In Sunday’s reading from Psalm 42, the psalmist asks, “Why are you so upset (disquieted) inside? Hope in God! Because I will again give God thanks, my saving presence and my God.” (vs. 11). Flip Wilson, comedian from the 1970s and 1980s was described as a comedian who went on stage and the audience hopes that Flip likes them. One character he often played was Geraldine Jones who often said, “The devil made me do it.” What is at the core in us that causes CONFLICT, war of words, and vendettas that make us less than what God created us to be in relationships that are both human and divine?
The Gospel lesson for Sunday is about Jesus’ confronting demons that possessed a man who “For a long time he had not worn any clothes, and he did not live in a house but in the tombs.” (Luke 8:25). Jesus understood the CONFLICT in this man’s life and asked, “’What is your name?’ ’Legion’, he replied, because many demons had entered him.” (vs. 30). It was Jesus who offered healing and restoration in the man’s life. CONFLICT cannot be the final action in our lives.
As Christians we are called to be “resurrection” people who proclaim that God continually creates in us reconciliation, forgiveness, peace, wholeness, holiness, and restoration of relationships. Deb Long, NWOA bookkeeper, gifted me with a Diamond Art Painting that has these words: “Pray Big, Worry Small, Trust God, Love One Another, Laugh More, Stress Less, Have Faith, Rejoice & Be Grateful.” CONFLICT is changed to love. Again, “Hope in God! Because I will again give God thanks, my saving presence and my God.” BLESSINGS ALWAYS.

Adult Conference is full of endless possibilities where faith is deepened and broadened, ministry leaders are born and nurtured, and fellowship within the wider Church is strengthened. Adult Conference is an inclusive, welcoming place, where conferees are free to explore issues openly, honestly, and without judgment.
Through Adult Conference, conferees may find that God is calling them to explore horizons they had never considered or even dreamed of before. We hope that many will be able to experience the far-reaching impact that Adult Conference has in the lives of individuals.
