Peggy George

Peggy George is a member of Bloomville United Church of Christ in Bloomville, Ohio. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren/United Methodist church in Attica, Ohio. In 1975 she joined the Bloomville UCC, where she remains a member. She served several positions in the local church: secretary of Consistory, President of Consistory, and a brief stint as church secretary. She was church delegate for many years to the NWOA meetings. Peggy currently serves as Moderator of the NWOA. Peggy enrolled and completed Old Testament and New Testament classes in the Lay School. She spent several years as a volunteer/chaperone of Heidelberg students at Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS.

Peggy received an ABA in Executive Secretarial studies at Davis Jr. College in Toledo, Ohio, working a few years at a law firm in Toledo, working for the Seneca County Prosecutor, and working at Ohio Power Company in Tiffin. She spent forty years as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students at Heidelberg College/University, retiring in 2020. While working at Heidelberg, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English Literature.

Peggy’s husband of 43 years, Steve, passed away in 2018 of a massive heart attack. Her family includes three adult children – Eric, who lives in St. Mary’s, OH; Libberty, who lives in Mokena, IL; and Jenney, who lives in Kenosha, WI. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild complete the family. After Steve’s death, Peggy pulled up her Seneca County roots and moved to Otterbein Senior Life in St. Mary’s, OH, where she enjoys living in independent living housing situated on Grand Lake St. Marys. She has become involved on campus as secretary to Resident Council, serves on the Welcome Wagon committee and as Lane Ambassador for the residents on Mallard Lane.

Her heart is filled with love from all the students she met while at Heidelberg, especially those who call the UCC “home,” and her new friends throughout the NWOA, the Heartland Conference, and the national church.

NEW COMMITTEES TO MEET:

Technology – Thursday, January 15 at 3pm

Building – Thursday, January 22 at 3pm

Two new committees are set to meet in January:

Technology Committee: This committee will work to evaluate all use of technology and business equipment in the Association office. Anyone with expertise in computers and information technology is invited to help with this evaluation. The committee will meet on Thursday, January 15 at 3:00 p.m.

Building Committee: This committee will work to evaluate the use of the NWOA headquarters building, as well as its current physical condition and its value. The Cabinet wants to be sure we are using the building to its fullest potential, be prepared to address any repairs/renovations, and to determine an approximate value of the building should the make-up of the Conference happen to change dramatically. We need a realtor on this committee, as well as a remodeling/construction contractor. If your congregation has someone who could assist with this evaluation, please contact Kim Nye at the office. This committee will meet on Thursday January 22 at 3:00 p.m.

The Christmas Fund

Be the Light

For over 100 years, The Christmas Fund (originally “Veterans of the Cross”) has provided direct financial assistance to the leaders in all our lives: retired and active UCC ministers, church workers, and their families.

Please consider donating today to ensure more leaders receive the loving support of the Church in their moment of deepest need. The Christmas Fund was here for them.

Your gift is more than just a testament to your belief in the values of the United Church of Christ; it is a critical lifeline for those who depend on our grant programs for care and support. The Christmas Fund is one of the Five for Five special offering opportunities we have in the United Church of Christ. This Christmas season, please consider your generous support to this vital ministry! Thank you again for your generosity and I offer a prayer for your continued safety and peace.
