Letter from the President & CEO

Dear Members,

The holiday season is a time to celebrate life, kindness, and mindfulness. Yes, holidays can be stressful and a pandemic can amplify things. That's why, at these times in particular, practicing mindfulness can be invaluable.

Mindfulness focuses one on the awareness of feelings and being in the moment. It reminds one to be purposeful in all things, be aware of one's patterns of behavior, and not to neglect one's happiness. Learning the techniques to be calm when things get crazy takes practice and I recommend two resources to review over the holidays:

I think of mindfulness like the directions from a flight attendant during flight preparation. They always tell you that in case of emergency, put the oxygen mask on yourself so that you can help others.

We will have plenty of time to fight for the future competitiveness of manufacturing in the Commonwealth in 2021. So, secure your mask and share some holiday spirit. We all need some life affirming celebrations and simple acts of kindness to end this year.

Best Wishes & Happy Holidays,

Brett

Career Pathways for Individuals with Disabilities Update

Five years ago, DARS/DBVI was awarded the Career Pathways for Individuals with Disabilities grant.

The project has encountered numerous challenges over the last year - Order of Selection, WIOA and Pre-Ets implementations, changes in Aware requirements, retirements - and a pandemic. Yet, the project offered DARS and DBVI the opportunity to collaborative with each other, other individuals and partners to achieve goals, and to foster an integrated approach to new initiatives and pilot programs

Working with the Manufacturing Skills Institute, DARS/DBVI achieved the following project results as of September 30, 2020:
  • Number of Vocational Rehabilitation participants served by CPID grant: 1303 (goal: 470).
  • Aggregate Number of Credentials earned by CPID project participants: 360 (goal: 150). This does not include foundational credentials such as the Career Readiness Certificate, OSHA10 and Customer Service Training).
