Letter from the President & CEO

Dear Members:

The VMA's commitment to workforce development is unrivaled in the association business.  One of our principal goals is to close the industry skills and interest gaps in the current and emerging workforce by 2020.  This means that we need to reach 20,000 people a year with our Dream It Do It Virginia Career Information System and train over 6,000 adults a year through our Manufacturing Skills Institute (MSI) Academic Partner Network .  To get there, we need your help.

In partnership with our 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, the Virginia Industry Foundation, we launched the Vision 2020 Campaign.  Our goal is to raise $750,000 in dedicated funds for our workforce development programs.  MSI and Dream It Do It Virginia are 100% funded by direct contributions, grants, and fees for service, and they need your philanthropic support.

To keep the nationally award-winning Dream It Do It Virginia programs running and maintain our MSI training programs with Virginia's 130 high schools and 23 community colleges, we are challenging Virginia industry to help us raise $500,000 by December 2018. To make a tax preferred contribution today, go to http://manufacturingskillsinstitute.org/vision2020/.

If you have any questions about MSI, Dream It Do It Virginia or Vision 2020, please call Dr. Victor Gray or me at 804.643.7489.  Thank you for helping us close the industry skills and interest gaps by 2020 in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Best Wishes,
Brett

DIDIVA Summer Camps Are In Full Swing!

Experiential learning is taking Virginia by storm this summer with 14 Dream It Do It Virginia Advanced Technology Academies, Adventures, Camps and Employability Workshops planned around the state!   Our goal is to serve over 250 students and adults this summer.

Dream It. Do it. Virginia Advanced Technology Academies, Adventures and Camps introduce participants to the manufacturing design process in a fun and interactive format. These programs are an innovative way to educate students, parents and teachers about manufacturing careers. Tours, lectures, and manufacturing demonstrations structure each day. Additionally, a competitive manufacturing assignment is built into academies and camps, where participants are divided into teams and work collaboratively to produce a product.

Program opportunities are varied:
  • One (1+) day Academies are designed for adults and/or students who meet certain eligibility requirements
  • One (1) day STEM Career Adventures are designed for middle and high school students
  • Four (4) Day Camps are designed for students who are still in high school
  • One (1) day Employability Workshops are for Manufacturing Job Seekers

For additional information, and to view a complete list of all opportunities throughout Virginia, click here.  If you would like to host a camp or get involved, please contact Melissa Gordon at  [email protected].
