Practice Guideline: Assigning, Delegating, Teaching and Supervising in Nursing Practice



Nurses collaborate with unregulated care providers (UCPs), which incudes nursing students that are hired in such roles. Nurses who assign, delegate and teach nursing activities to UCPs remain responsible for ensuring it is done appropriately, providing supervision, and intervening as required. To review the related practice expectations, refer to the revised Practice Guideline.

RNs are part of the largest group of regulated nursing professional in Canada. Did you know that in 2023, 321 971 RNs were licensed to practice in Canada? The overall supply grew at a rate of 2% in 2023, faster than the rate in 2022 (1%).
