NANB Holiday Hours

The NANB office will be closed from Monday, December 25, 2023 through January 1, 2024; re-opening for regular business hours on Tuesday January 2, 2024.



The Continuing Competence Program (CCP) is a regulatory requirement that serves to support nurses to examine their accountability as self-regulated professionals. The CCP is an ongoing process that extends throughout the year, starting in December with a self-assessment of your nursing practice against your standards of practice to determine your learning needs, and the preparation of your learning plan for the upcoming practice year. The CCP Annual Planning Guide can assist with the timing of your CCP activities throughout the year.

The NANB NEAC (Nursing Education Advisory Committee) is looking for a nurse manager or nurse employer committee member. The purpose of the NEAC is to advise the NANB Board of Directors regarding the standards for nursing education, schools of nursing program review approval status and related outcomes of nursing program reviews. 

The ideal candidate would be familiar with the RN Entry-Level Competencies, current and emerging trends in nursing practice, preparedness required of new graduates, and clinical practice settings and preceptorship experiences. Experience in educational programs, curriculum development and/or program approval/accreditation would be an asset.

The terms of the committee is three years, members can be reappointed one time. In general, the committee meets virtually 3-4 times a year for 1-2 hours.

Beyond-Entry Level Competencies

The complexity of the health care environment requires nurses to work to their full scope of practice. This can include competencies beyond what is gained through entry-level nursing programs. These competencies are “beyond entry-level competencies” (BELCs) and are not currently part of the nurse’s work expectations. They are introduced into nursing practice in a specific practice setting. NANB has a decision-making framework that helps nurses and employers determine if a proposed intervention is consistent with the professional scope of practice. The framework should be used when evaluating requests to introduce a new BELC into your nursing practice.
