Modernizing the Nurses Act:
How will this affect my practice?

Approximately 100 members and stakeholders joined NANB Board and staff at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Fredericton on September 26th to take part in a Nursing Forum presenting trends across the Country in nursing regulation and how this affects nursing practice in New Brunswick.

The full day event included presentations from the Nova Scotia College of Nurses and the College of Alberta Registered Nurses. Participants also had the opportunity for round table discussions and Q&A with a panel of the presenters. Links to the presentations are available on the NANB Website.

We look forward to more opportunities to engage with members about the future of NANB.
NANB Important Resources
NANB recently undertook a review of the Nurse Practitioner Schedules for Ordering. Based on this review, the Nurse Practitioner Therapeutics Committee made recommendations to the NANB Board of Directors with respect to the recommended tools and wording found in the Schedules for Ordering. The Board of Directors, and subsequently the Minister of Health, the Honourable Bruce Fitch, approved the recommended changes. These changes clarify the scope of practice for GNPs and provide additional clarity regarding NP prescribing. They do not constitute a change in prescriptive authority for either NPs or GNPs. You can find these changes in the appendices of the Standards for the Practice of Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioners.
