Completion of the module should take about 40 minutes. The learning module is available in your “My Profile“ account.

NANB is seeking nurses but also members of the public's input. Please share far and wide! We value your perspectives and experiences to better inform the development of this standard. The Nurse Practitioner practice analysis validation survey is now live! If you are an NP, expect to receive an email with instructions and a link from NANB. If you do not receive an email, check your spam or junk folder or contact us at nanb@nanb.nb.ca or via the Contact Us section of the NANB website. The survey is anonymous and confidential.

The practice analysis validation survey will be available until Wednesday, April 24, 2024. 

Here are some important points to consider:

All nurses must ensure that their practice is within scope by considering whether:

1. The practice is consistent with relevant legislation and nursing standards;
2. The practice is supported through employer policy;
3. The practice is appropriate to be performed with the patient population and/or specific client; and
4. The RN/NP has the individual practice competency needed.

Individual scope of practice is unique and specific to each RN and NP. Prior to performing any procedure or activity, nurses are accountable for reflecting on their individual competence and consider whether they have the adequate knowledge, skill, and judgment to perform the activity safely and competently.

If a practice is considered a beyond the entry-level competency  the nurse is accountable to engage in education and practice to build their capacity to perform the intervention safely and competently. NANB does not review, approve, or recommend any types of nursing education courses or programs other than those leading to initial entry-to-practice as RNs or NPs. Each nurse, in collaboration with their employer, is responsible for doing their research and determining if the course or program is reputable, approved, or accredited, and then determining if the course or program meets their learning needs and professional development goals.

Practice Guideline: Privacy and Confidentiality

Protecting the privacy of clients is a fundamental responsibility of nurses, and upholding privacy and confidentiality is important from a legal and ethical perspective. The Practice Guideline: Privacy and Confidentiality is intended to be used as a resource for nurses in all practice settings to understand their responsibilities related to privacy and confidentiality, as well as various aspects of accessing, collecting, using, and disclosing personal health information.  

Fact Sheet: Supported Decision-Making and Representation Act

The new NANB Fact Sheet: Supported Decision-Making and Representation Act provides more context to the new Act and its supporting concepts. The document outlines the Act’s purpose and three-level framework; the concept of capacity; and assessment requirements for NPs. It provides further linked resources as well as appended legal forms for ease of access.
