Practice Guideline: Beyond Entry-Level Competencies
The complexity of the health care environment requires nurses to work to their full scope of practice. This can include competencies beyond what is gained through entry-level nursing programs. These competencies are “beyond entry-level competencies” (BELCs) and are not currently part of the nurse’s work expectations. They are introduced into nursing practice in a specific practice setting. NANB has a decision-making framework that helps nurses and employers determine if a proposed intervention is consistent with the professional scope of practice.
