Virtual Nursing Awards Reception

Due to the rising cases of COVID 19 and public health restrictions in the province, NANB has decided to host a Virtual Awards Reception to protect the health and safety of all participants.

Join NANB Board and staff on November 17 at 6:00pm via Zoom to celebrate and recognize nurse colleagues for their contributions to nursing and the health of New Brunswickers. Online capacity is limited, please RSVP to [email protected] before Friday November 12.

Continuing Competency Program (CCP)

Mandatory Learning Module

The NANB Continuing Competency Program has two mandatory components. Both components must be completed if you are registering for active practice.

Completing a self-assessment, developing and evaluating a learning plan as well as completing the online learning module, Standards for Documentation. Completion of the learning module should take about 40 minutes and it can be accessed through "My Profile". NANB Registration Renewal 2022

Now Open

Your registration must be renewed online between October 1 and November 30, 2021. If you are participating in employer payroll deduction for your registration fees, you must renew online by November 15, 2021. *Please note that if you currently have a non-practising registration in 2021 and want an active practising registration in 2022, you cannot renew online.

To renew online, log in to “My Profile” or create your profile at “Create My Profile” and access the RENEW ONLINE option.

CNPS FEE INCREASE FOR 2022 PRACTICE YEAR

Fees collected from RNs by NANB for the 2022 practice year are higher than those collected for the 2021 practice year due to the difference in the cost of liability protection from the Canadian Nurse Protective Society (CNPS).

NANB receives calls from time to time from nurses who are concerned about loosing their licence because of staffing challenges. Whether you are short staffed, working overtime, or floating to an unfamiliar unit, all these situations can challenge your ability to provide safe, competent, compassionate, and ethical care.

Guidance for Nurse Practitioners Regarding Medical Exemptions for COVID-19 Immunization, Mask Wearing and Testing

Throughout New Brunswick, many organizations are requiring that staff and visitors be immunized against COVID-19, and/or participate in mask wearing, and surveillance testing. As such, it is not unreasonable to expect that, nurse practitioner (NPs) in response may be asked to provide medical exemption notes from immunization, mask wearing and/or testing. For more guidance on the process and criteria for medical exemptions to COVID-19 immunization and examples of medical exemptions to wearing masks and testing visit NANB's website.

NANB provides confidential consultations to nurses, employers, health care providers, the public and others to support safe, competent and ethical nursing practice. The consultations provide support to resolve professional practice issues, navigate legislation/ regulations related to nursing practice, understand the scope of practice and meet the standards of practice.

Fact Sheet: Mentoring

NANB’s Fact Sheet on Mentoring outlines the principles of mentoring in nursing, and the professional and ethical responsibilities of nurses engaged in mentoring. As stated in the Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses, “nurses are responsible and accountable for supporting clients, colleagues and students by sharing knowledge and expertise and by acting as an effective role model, resource, preceptor or mentor” (p. 11). NANB’s Transition to Nursing Practice Toolkit could also be a helpful resource when mentoring graduate and novice nurses.
