Considering a Non-practising Registration, or Resigning/Retiring your Registration
Considering a non-practising membership for the 2024 practice year because of an extended leave (maternity leave, sick leave, long term disability, etc.)? Read these tips to avoid unauthorized practice. If you decide not to renew your registration but want to keep your record in good standing and avoid paying a late fee should you later decide to reinstate your registration, you should retire or resign your registration.
Hours of Nursing Practice
Please note that when reporting your hours of nursing practice for the 2023 practice year, you must report all nursing hours worked, including hours worked with your secondary employer or in self-employment settings.

Professional Development
Nursing is a dynamic and continually changing profession that requires RNs and NPs to keep current with changes in practice, health care, and technology. Educational resources that can support your professional development to help you stay current in your practice and gain new knowledge are available on the Professional Development web page.
Protecting the privacy of clients is a fundamental responsibility of nurses, and upholding privacy and confidentiality is important from a legal and ethical perspective. The new Practice Guideline: Privacy and Confidentiality is intended to be used as a resource for nurses in all practice settings to understand their responsibilities related to privacy and confidentiality, as well as various aspects of accessing, collecting, using, and disclosing personal health information.
Guideline for Nurse Practitioner Practice
Are you a NP or GNP with questions about starting your practice, leaving your practice, or accepting and discharging clients? Are you moving or closing your self-employed practice? These topics and more are discussed in NANB’s Guideline for Nurse Practitioner Practice.
