HEALING FOR THE FAMILY

Child abuse doesn't just affect the child. It affects the entire family. Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County offers free, life-time therapy services to children and their non-offending family members.

Sandy began attending individual therapy a few months ago after her daughter disclosed that she was being physically abused by her husband. Since her daughter’s disclosure, Sandy has decided to get a divorce. She’s coping with the reality of her situation and the fact that she will be supporting her daughter and herself on her own. She has been processing her feelings of worry and self-doubt about being able to be a good mom. Through her work in therapy, Sandy has been able to identify that her relationship with her husband was very unhealthy and abusive, and has gained confidence in herself to set healthy boundaries. She stated that she was so proud of herself for being able to stand up to the person that hurt her and her child. Sandy continues to attend therapy because she values her healing.
