Homeless Resource Day is January 23rd

Walk to the mission. Walk to the bus stop. Walk to the library. Walk to a friend's house. Walk to the store. Walk to an appointment. Walk, walk, walk.

For most of us, completing errands is routine. We get in our car and drive to the various appointments, stores, etc., but for someone living in poverty, their feet are often the only means by which they can move from place to place. With all that walking, socks become a priority. Socks are one of the most requested items at Newgate or any mission.

This year as part of the Homeless Resource Day, FUMC will distribute new socks. New socks meet a basic need that we often take for granted, but socks are such a blessing for those who walk most of the day. We are asking for your help by donating new men's and women's socks. You can also volunteer to help distribute socks at the Homeless Resource Day event, January 23, 2020.

Homeless Resource Day was started by the mayor's task force to focus on homelessness in Longview. It provides a one-stop event for people to receive services such as assistance with identification cards, veterinarian services for their pets, haircuts, housing referrals, health checks, information on children's programs, and much more. This year's event takes place on January 23, 2020, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Exhibit Building on the Longview Fairgrounds.

You can drop off your sock donations in the church office anytime during the week and on Sundays leading up to January 23. If you'd like to volunteer to work on Homeless Resource Day, contact me at rscott@longviewfumc.org.

In Christ,

Pastor Romnie
Where are you connected?
We're kicking off Wednesday Night Live for 2020 on January 15th with a soup & chili potluck dinner! We encourage everyone to bring their favorite soup or chili recipe to share as we fellowship together as a church family. Our kitchen staff will provide tea, coffee, water, cornbread, corn chips, and all the fixings! Presentation on 2020 studies and other Wednesday Night Live opportunities this year will follow dinner. Please note that we will not be having any children’s choir or children's Wednesday Night Live activities this evening.
The Rise 2020
Welcome to the Roaring 20s! Entering a new decade, we have an excellent opportunity for parents and youth to start the year off in the right way! The annual East Texas Youth Conference, THE RISE, will be January 30th through February 1st at the Belcher Center.
The Rise is a multi-denominational gathering of youth groups from all over East Texas to listen, pray, worship, serve, and play in Christ. We have four sessions at the Belcher Center this year, including a Dart Battle Royale tournament on Saturday afternoon at LeTourneau University. This event is also a mission for us as the nerf guns we bring for Battle Royale will be donated to the LukeStrong Foundation, which serves children with cancer. You can learn more at lukestrong.org.

How does the weekend work?
