Earlier this year, we began the new year with our discipleship campaign, "Emerge." Coming out of the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the isolation it brought, we focused on how we would emerge as a new and faithful church family. We also looked within to discern whom God called each of us to be as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Now we find ourselves beyond the halfway point of 2021. We have experienced many changes on so many fronts. The world feels like a much different place than a year ago. People are traveling again, the church staff has undergone a great deal of change, and our community and world alike have experienced much change. What hasn't changed is the steadfast love of God in Christ Jesus. Something else that hasn't changed is the pervasive call upon each of us to discipleship in Christ to the glory of God and the service of others.
There is no time like the present to reflect on our personal discipleship and to activate our participation in God's ministry anew. The church is touching many new lives. We have many people looking for a church home who have looked to FUMC as the place God calls them to be. We are embarking on life-changing ministry both here and at our Wesley-McCabe Outreach Center. We are engaged in exciting new ministries and partnering to make a more significant impact as a beacon of hope for all.
As we are already more than halfway through a year where we are called to emerge, may each of us reflect on how we might re-emerge as faithful, fruitful, and impactful participants in God's gracious work in Jesus Christ. Be more faithful in your attendance and participation at church. Join a small group or a Bible study to grow in your faith. Find a new way to be generous and give yourself to the work of Christ. Engage in a meaningful area of service. Make a difference in someone's life and discover how the life most changed is your own.
I am personally beginning my fifth year as your pastor! I am excited to be part of this great church and am optimistic and hopeful for what God is planning to do through our ministry together. I hope you will commit to re-emerge and help us finish this year strong with greater things ahead for the year to come!
Grace and peace,
