June 19, 2019
Almost all of my memories from 4th of July’s involve going down to the beach. My family has had a home in Rockport, Texas since before I was born and each July we would all gather together to enjoy the sand, sun, waves, and fireworks. The night of the 4th we’d grill hot dogs and hamburgers, eat an early dinner, and then take the boat out into the bay just before it got dark. There would be a ton of other boats all filled with families waiting for the show to begin. As soon as it was dark enough one lone firework would shoot up into the sky to signal the beginning of the city fireworks display. For the next 30 minutes we would be dazzled by the colors and designs that flew up into the air above us. And as we made the trip back to the dock we would debate which firework was the best. I loved watching those shows all throughout my childhood but the thing that I really remember with the most fondness is the way my family all gathered together to celebrate.

Sunday, June 30 is our annual God and Country Sunday. We will gather together in two combined services, instead of our usual four; 8:30 a.m. Contemporary worship in the Faith Center and 10:45 a.m. traditional worship in the sanctuary. This is a special Sunday in the life of our church family when we come together to celebrate and give thanks to God for the blessings we enjoy as Americans. In a society that often feels divided I am so thankful for a church family that continues to intentionally come together in worship and also comes together to enjoy good food! After our 10:45 a.m. worship service come join us for a potluck lunch in the Faith Center! The meat will be provided but we need you to bring your favorite side dish or dessert to share. It’s special days like this, when we gather together to celebrate, worship, and enjoy one another’s company, where our fondest memories are made. We hope to see you there!

Peace,
Pastor Becca

Lakeview Methodist Camp Mail
We have 16 members of our church heading to Lakeview Methodist Camp from June 23rd-28th. We want our campers to receive a note in camp mail each day at camp, and we need your help! We’d like to invite you to write a letter to a camper as they enjoy the week growing in their Christian Faith and building relationships with counselors and friends. You can find an envelope with a campers name on it in the Welcome Center. Please write a letter and return it to the red mailbox in the Welcome Center by Thursday, June 20th.

Community VBS 2019
On June 11 - 13, our volunteers went around to different areas of Longview to provide a much-needed service of Vacation Bible School to the children of these communities.
The first night of Community VBS was held at Spring Creek Apartments; sponsored by Newgate Mission, FUMC, and Wesley-McCabe UMC. We had 23 volunteers and over 50 participants.
Day 2 of Community VBS was held at Newgate Mission, where we had over 20 participants and 8 volunteers.
We wrapped up community VBS at Belaire Manor Apartments, where 8 volunteers wrapped hot dogs, 22 volunteered at VBS, and 127 participated (60 kids played games, made crafts, and enjoyed food, and 67 adults received a meal).
Overall for the week, we had 197 participants, 12 hot dog prep volunteers, 10 door hanger volunteers, and 53 VBS volunteers. We think it's safe to say this year's Community VBS was a success! Thank you to all who helped, participated, and prayed over this event. We hope to do it again next year!
