Father’s Day is almost upon us, so congrats to all of you Dad’s and Father figures out there! When I think about Father’s day, I often think about dad jokes. You know those jokes that only dads can tell and somewhat get away with. Jokes like...

“I didn’t like my beard at first, but then it grew on me.”

“I gave all my dead batteries away of charge.”

Or this classic...

Child: “Dad, I’m hungry.”

Dad: “Hello Hungry, I’m Dad.”

Child: “Dad, I’m serious.”

Dad: “I thought you were Hungry?”

Whether you have told one of these jokes or have had them said to you, you have no doubt experienced this brand of humor. I remember growing up; my dad would use these on me all of the time. While I didn’t necessarily appreciate them at the time, as I have grown older and maybe a little wiser, I have realized that while there wasn’t always wisdom in the joke itself, they did teach me something. They taught me to choose my words carefully and thoughtfully. I learned this lesson not to simply get out of hearing bad jokes (although that was a gift in itself) at times. This lesson has allowed me to stay out of trouble. Other times it is a careful and thoughtful word spoken to others that helps them out of a difficult situation.

So on this Father’s Day (June 20th), remember the wisdom of the men in your life. Remember that a kind word can do so much for someone’s day. Remember that words can bring light in times of darkness. Remember to choose your words for your situation. You never know when a dad joke is waiting for you because a joke doesn’t become a “dad joke” until it becomes... apparent.

We have great news! Twelve students will be attending Lakeview Summer Church Camp from June 21-25. These students are boys and girls ranging in age from 9-15 and will be staying within their appropriate age group at Lakeview. Per Lakeview guidelines, there is a 6:1 student to adult ratio that FUMC must follow. Youth and children ministries need one male adult chaperone to attend Lakeview Summer Church Camp from June 21-25.

Lakeview Methodist Conference Center is excited to welcome campers back in 2021 after a break in 2020. As Lakeview welcomes students back to camp, the staff and directors take all precautions to be COVID-19 free. If you are interested in experiencing some fun and would like more information, please contact Janice Crane at or call the church office at 903-753-4463.

Please accept a heartfelt thank you for your generosity in providing gift cards for 39 area foster youth as they graduated from High School. The number of graduates increased from what was expected. We considered it great news that more were successful in graduating. Happily, your donations greatly surpassed our expectations. Our church blessed this group with $3,655 in gift cards! Thank you again for making a difference in the lives of these young adults.

Congratulations fo the Fite family!
Laura and Kent Fite welcomed their 3rd daughter - Finley - to the world on May 30th!
Join us Sundays through June 20th for our Pentecost Worship Sermon Series!
Join us as we reflect on passages from the early church that demonstrate how early Christians embraced the winds of change. These passages point us to faithfulness as we embrace the winds of change today. As we emerge from a challenging season due to COVID-19, racial conflict, and political divisiveness in our world, we will explore ways to embrace the winds of change and thrive.
If you or someone you know is sick or hospitalized and is unable to attend worship with us, please let us know!
