A Message from Debby Canter
The entire month of November, not just Thanksgiving Day, has become a time of year to give thanks for our blessings. I am indeed blessed to be serving as the OSO president. I have been able to travel to a few chapter meetings and had meaningful conversations with members.

I was able to attend a Zoom meeting with Gamma Upsilon and shared my “passion for our purposes” with members. It was a quick meeting due to my work schedule, but chapter president, Terri Duesing assured me that it was received well. Whether you meet via Zoom, Google Meet, or some other video conferencing, it’s better than not meeting at all, as the goal is to keep your chapter members connected.

A Perspective on DKG International Conference-San Antonio
As OSO Recording Secretary, I attended the DKG International Conference in San Antonio, Texas, this past July.  The focus of the sessions I attended had to do with membership.

One session had to do with small modules created by members of a Tennessee chapter targeting information members “need to know” to stay in DKG.  I am hopeful to be able to incorporate these ideas while working on the Communications/Marketing Committee this biennium.

OSO Bylaws and Standing Rules Committee
THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!   The OSO Bylaws Committee would like to thank ALL of our chapters for reviewing, editing, and revising their Chapter Rules to align with the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International’s Constitution and Standing Rules as well as Ohio State Organization’s Bylaws and Standing Rules. We realize that this is tedious work, takes time, and appreciate your diligence looking for name changes, word changes, conflicting statements, and additions in the proper places.

OSO Member “SHIP” Cruise: Campaign Promotion Resources
The Membership Committee presents some ways to increase our OSO Chapters’ Membership for 2021-2022.

We know that one question your chapter probably has for the Membership Committee is.…What are some ways to maintain and increase the members in my DKG Chapter in order that our portion of the DKG OSO “SHIP” will be able to continue to float, sail, and thrive?

World Fellowship Fund: Memories. . .of the Way We Were
The movie, The Way We Were, was released on October 16, 1973. The title song was sung by Barbra Streisand. If you saw the movie, the tune is probably already swimming around in your head. Sometimes, the best way to learn and remember, is through song.

Pop Quiz from last month: When did the World Fellowship Fund begin?   From what country were the 4 women who received funds to study in Sweden?

Student Teaching Grant Recipient Expresses Gratitude
Members of the Alpha Delta State Ohio Educational Foundation,

I am writing to express my gratefulness for receiving this grant. Because of this gracious award, I was able to take time away from my weekend job throughout the last school year so I could ensure I was giving my all to my student teaching experience. Instead of needing to worry about how I was going to work to afford to pay bills or buy lunch each week, I was able to use the funds awarded to me via your gracious grant opportunity to pay for my necessities. This allowed me to treat my student teaching experience like a full-time job the correct way...without further distractions. For that, I would like to extend a very gracious thank you.

Introducing ADSOEF Donor Relations Committee
The Donor Relations Committee has a very heartwarming job!  The Committee is responsible to send acknowledgement letters to donors for tax purposes, send notes to recognize gifts made in honor or in memory of someone, and maintain a record of donors for publication in both The Voice and the Foundation Annual Meeting Report.  Thanks to Mary Ellen Hall, Diana Kirkpatrick, Karen McFarland, Betty Monahan, and Debra Frazier, Chairman, for serving on the Donor Relations Committee.

If you are interested in serving on a Foundation committee, please contact Dr. Norma Kirby at [email protected].
