October 13, 2021
As a child, October was always full of excitement, especially the Fall Festival at my home church. I loved getting dressed up in my costume, playing games, and eating lots of candy. My own children have wonderful memories of Fall Fest at FUMC with all the games, activities, and, yes, lots of candy. Next week you will learn more about this year's Fall Fest activities, but today I want to focus on how we bring those same memories to children who live in other neighborhoods and do not attend our church.

Several years ago, I realized that almost all family events in Longview take place north of Highway 80, often on the Loop. This left a massive void for families struggling with transportation and took them out of their neighborhoods and away from friends. So we began to focus on offering more family events south of Highway 80 that were accessible to all.

This year we are bringing Trunk or Treat to our South Campus (formerly Wesley McCabe UMC). Children from Terrific Tuesday, the Boys and Girls Club, Newgate Mission, Asbury House, the Longview Child Development Center, and Bailey Elementary are invited to attend. We could (and do) invite them to attend Fall Fest at FUMC, but there is something special about attending an activity in your neighborhood with your friends. Children will be able to visit decorated cars in the parking lot to "trick or treat" for candy, and representatives from the Longview Police Department and Longview Fire Department will be there as well.

To make this happen, we need your help. Volunteers are needed to decorate cars and distribute candy, help set up and clean up, and help with food in the Fellowship Hall. We also need lots of candy! You can place candy donations in the containers around the church for both Fall Fest and Trunk or Treat.

Trunk or Treat is October 23rd from 4:00-6:00 PM at 1115 S Mobberly. Please get in touch with me at romnie@lvfumc.org to volunteer!

In Christ,
Pastor Romnie

October WNL for Children

WNL is in full swing for children ages Pre-K to 5th grade. We are so excited to meet this fall on Wednesdays from 6:00 - 7:30 PM, September 1 - November 10. We will be learning about taking initiative, launching into action, how we are God's custom creations, developing contentment, and being happy with what we have.

Dinner will be provided for all children! A kid-friendly menu has been created and will include favorite entrees, vegetables, and fruits. A donation of $5 per meal would be appreciated to help with food and preparation costs. You may make this donation here.

We're excited to see you on Wednesdays for faith, fun, and fellowship! For more information, contact Jana at jana@lvfumc.org or 903-753-4463.
All children in grades 2-5 are invited to participate as an acolyte during Beacon Worship. Parents, please check your calendars and click here to sign your acolyte(s) up to serve! This will allow us to print their names in the bulletin each Sunday. Email Jana at jana@lvfumc.org with questions.
The children's choir will be singing during Beacon Worship on Sunday, November 7th.
Prayerfully consider donating a 12 pack of soda for our Trunk or Treat event at our South Campus!

Thanks to all who joined us for our Women's Retreat this past weekend! We had great weather and a great time coming together to be affirmed we are all worthy and treasured by God. So many people in the Bible played important parts in God’s story some that are left unnamed and others only named just in passing yet all important in God’s message.
