FUMC: A Church Pressing Forward
Despite ongoing challenges and inherent issues, Longview FUMC continues to press forward with faithfulness and fruitfulness in our ministry in the name of Jesus Christ. This past Sunday, we were able to worship in our newly renovated Sanctuary together for the first time in quite a while. We still are socially distancing, avoiding contact, masking, and sanitizing our hands. Yet, we were together in a way that felt so good. Sunday School classes are meeting again, some in new places, united together in support and fellowship. We continue to phase back ministries and restore activity slowly. We are pressing forward!
During the COVID-19 series of challenges, we have renovated and upgraded numerous areas of our facilities. We have adapted and innovated. We have gone virtual where necessary and found ways to expand and deepen our reach into people's lives. Even as we move back into more extensive opportunities in person, we also continue to find ways to extend our church ministry virtually to those who choose to remain more cautious at home.
On Sunday, we began a five-week series of sermons on the Book of Philippians, Pressing Forward. The study focuses on Paul's words of encouragement for the Philippians to remain faithful and complete what God has started among them. This sermon series and study encourage us as we do the same today. In addition to the sermon series, we are offering a five-week parallel study led by me. The study will be held in the Sanctuary from 6:15 - 7:15 PM as part of our Wednesday Night Live offerings. In addition to the in-person opportunity in the Sanctuary, you can join us at home on the church Facebook page or our website. The study will be live-streamed on Wednesday evenings and remain available anytime on our Facebook page and website for your convenience. If you are looking for something else, David and Beth Lee will be leading a marriage study, "Your Best Us," in the Nicholson Chapel; also on Wednesday nights. There will also be nursery and activities for children and youth.
I am overwhelmed with gratitude as I reflect on all that God has done in and through FUMC. Your faithfulness has been amazing. May we press forward and bring to completion what God has started at FUMC.
Grace and Peace,
