It seems like we have been planning this forever, but Terrific Tuesday finally arrived! Twenty-five students from Bailey Elementary and Bramlette Elementary arrived at Wesley McCabe for one and a half hours of fun. Students began with snacks provided by UMW of First United Methodist Church, and then they divided into three groups for rotations of art, reading, science, and a Bible story. Our fifth graders are participating in a semester-long cooking program learning about nutrition, safety, and of course, how to cook. They will be planning our Thanksgiving Feast later in the semester.

This program happened because the members of FUMC dared to dream, and then you put a lot of work into making that dream happen. The dream began with the question, "what if we had the opportunity to engage in ministry on the southside of Longview?" When the opportunity presented itself in the form of a building with a heritage of serving, you accepted that dream and turned it into a reality. Many hours of clean-up and renovation led by our Facilities Team transformed the building into classrooms for Terrific Tuesday and other ministries. The youth spent countless hours painting, mowing, and moving items, while others decorated, planned lessons, and volunteered in so many capacities. Julie Moon, Mary Greenwaldt, Jana Pritchett, Norma Bruce, and Cheyenne Bussey have put together lessons for each segment, recruited volunteers, and decorated classrooms, and of course, Janice Crane has gifted us with her enthusiasm and love for children (she and Peggy Woods lead our 5th-grade group). Brandon Cernetisch helped with all the technical components, and Stephen Scott stepped in to cover all the odd jobs. As I write this, I know I will neglect to mention someone, but your help and vision are a part of our dream to be a beacon of hope for all.
We are off to a great start, but there is still more to do! We will begin sign-ups for Spring semester volunteers in October, so look for more information coming soon.

In Christ,
Pastor Romnie

Since July, we have returned to a more traditional communion service, although we still offer sealed communion elements in the pews. Have you ever thought about assisting with communion service at our Ascension (8:30) or Beacon (10:45) Sanctuary Worship services? Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month. Areas of service include assisting the pastors during the communion service at either worship service as well as preparing the elements and set-up of the altar. If you are interested in this area of service, please contact the church office at 903-753-4463 or email Stancy Simpson at for more information.

The FUMC Men’s Discipleship Group meets every Thursday for lunch from 12:00-1:00 PM in Nicholson Chapel.

The Chosen Interactive Bible Study book is also used allowing the group to dive more deeply into each episode as we explore the life of Jesus. A Chick-fil-A lunch is offered.
