August Stewardship Focus – Worship and Music
Ministry and mission at Oxford Presbyterian Church takes on so many forms as we answer Christ's call in our community, nation and world.

Choir Intern Program

When in Our Music God is Glorified.

Although most choir members have been singing for many years, we are strictly amateurs. Our common fear is hitting the wrong note when we enter or when we enter at the wrong time. The addition of choir interns, one each for soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, was enthusiastically received by existing members. Not only did they come in at the right time, but they hit the correct note, greatly improving the quality of our worship offerings. Kent Peterson, our Music Director, enthusiastically affirms,  From my perspective, their contribution has been immense, a true gift from God.

The Choir Interns let us know what a difference our congregation makes in their lives as well. Thanks be to God that this worship initiative succeeded well beyond our expectations and we look forward to sustaining this blessing for years to come!

Creating a Healthy Oxford Community
The 2019 Welcome Back Walkabout is fast approaching and Miami University seeks our help! Please consider volunteering for this gracious way of greeting our student neighbors in Oxford (sign up  here )
What is Walkabout?
Walkabout is an annual program (in its 16th year!) in which small groups of volunteers visit off-campus students in their rental houses and apartments at the beginning of fall semester. The volunteers welcome students back to town and provide useful information about living in Oxford. In addition to information, they also give chocolate chip cookies to each house that answers the door.

Why do we need Walkabout?
Walkabout is based on the premise that interacting with students on their own doorstep makes them more aware of the broader Oxford community and makes a positive impact on behavior throughout the year.

What do volunteers do?
Volunteers will visit between 20-30 off-campus properties during their 2-hour volunteer shift. You'll have a brief conversation with the students you reach about the Oxford community - city ordinances, local services, and community expectations of responsible and respectful behavior. University staff will provide the information and talking points!

How many volunteers / who are you looking for?
Miami is seeking about 150 volunteers. All ages are welcome, including community members, faculty, staff, and students. Children and pets are always nice additions to teams. The greater the diversity of participants, the better we represent the full community.

When is it?
Monday, August 26
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Volunteer time slots are from 4-6 and 6-8 pm

If you are able to participate, please fill out the Walkabout Volunteer registration form without delay  here

We hope you can join us for the 2019 Walkabout effort!

Youth Team
OPC is strengthening it's youth ministry with a new Youth Team! Led by Pastor Marc, the following individuals are serving as part of the team: Candace Crist, Tom Holmes, Emily Lykins, Mary Shinn, Leanne Staley, and Molly Todd.

This committee has developed a youth program for the fall, starting with the kickoff event of a pool party of September 11 from 6:30-8:00 PM at the home of Matt & Emily Lykins (dinner provided)! Youth are encouraged to bring a friend or two and join the fun!

For the remainder of the fall, youth gatherings will occur on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm and will include fun outings, lessons, service projects, and more.

Having this youth ministry team in place gives the church time to find the best match for the open position of youth director. And when the new youth director comes on board, the team will continue to provide support to the youth ministry and director. Thanks to Pastor Marc and the team for serving in this vital ministry!
