Creating a Healthy Oxford Community
The 2019 Welcome Back Walkabout is fast approaching and Miami University seeks our help! Please consider volunteering for this gracious way of greeting our student neighbors in Oxford (sign up  here )

What is Walkabout?
Walkabout is an annual program (in its 16th year!) in which small groups of volunteers visit off-campus students in their rental houses and apartments at the beginning of fall semester. The volunteers welcome students back to town and provide useful information about living in Oxford. In addition to information, they also give chocolate chip cookies to each house that answers the door.

Why do we need Walkabout?
Walkabout is based on the premise that interacting with students on their own doorstep makes them more aware of the broader Oxford community and makes a positive impact on behavior throughout the year.

What do volunteers do?
Volunteers will visit between 20-30 off-campus properties during their 2-hour volunteer shift. You'll have a brief conversation with the students you reach about the Oxford community - city ordinances, local services, and community expectations of responsible and respectful behavior. University staff will provide the information and talking points!

How many volunteers / who are you looking for?
Miami is seeking about 150 volunteers. All ages are welcome, including community members, faculty, staff, and students. Children and pets are always nice additions to teams. The greater the diversity of participants, the better we represent the full community.

When is it?
Monday, August 26
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Volunteer time slots are from 4-6 and 6-8 pm

If you are able to participate, please fill out the Walkabout Volunteer registration form without delay  here

We hope you can join us for the 2019 Walkabout effort!
Journals and Reflection Questions
Summer continues to be a great time to rest and reflect on "What's next." "What's next for me?" "What's next for our congregation?" Journals from the Myrtle Collaboration team are freely available in the lounge for you to jot down your reflections on the questions we've been asking. Take these journals to your porch or backyard, to the cabin or the beach.

Our reflection questions for August are:

  • How do I live out multiple callings in service to others?
  • How can Oxford Presbyterian Church help me to listen to Jesus’ call?

Click  here for a list of all the reflection questions.

Living Into Hope

There is not an act of kindness or generosity, not an act of sacrifice done,
or a word of peace and gentleness spoken, not a child's prayer uttered,
that does not sing hymns to God.
