Special Meeting of Congregational to Elect the Nominating Committee
On the third Sunday of August, the Oxford Presbyterian Church Session traditionally calls a Special Meeting of the Congregation to elect the Nominating Committee. This year the Special Meeting of the Congregation will take place on Sunday, August 16 and will begin approximately 5 minutes after the end of the livestream worship service. The congregational meeting will be hosted on the Zoom platform and will officially start when there is a quorum logged on. You'll be able to access the meeting on an electronic device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) or on a phone for audio only. Watch for access information that will be included in "The Voice" next Friday or contact the church office if you wish to receive that information in advance.

A practice meeting is being offered for those who wish to greater peace of mind connecting ahead of the congregational meeting. This brief meeting on Saturday, August 15 at 11:30 a.m. will go over the main functions on your device that you'll need to operate to fully participate in the congregational meeting. Once again, watch for access information to this practice meeting that will be included in "The Voice" next Friday or contact the church office if you wish to receive that information in advance.
Summer Small Group Book Discussion
“I’ll Push You” is an inspirational exploration of the true meaning of friendship and generosity. It is the story of Justin and Patrick, two friends who embark on an ‘Impossible Journey’ when Patrick agrees to push his lifelong best friend Justin in a wheelchair across the 500-mile pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain.

Join us for a fellowship-oriented discussion on the book this Sunday, August 9 at 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. With extra copies of the book available and a thematic approach in which you may share your reflections on as much or little of the reading as you wish, it’s not too late to let us know of your interest in participating. Simply contact Pastor Lawrence for more details.
Celebrating 164 Years of the Presbyterian Church in Colombia
For over twenty years, our congregation has grown in Christ through a mission partnership with a sister church in Colombia - the Seventh Presbyterian Church of Barranquilla. During this time, we've participated in the Colombian Partnership Network through the Presbytery of the Miami Valley.

Our presbytery has been invited to join in the celebration of 164 years of Presbyterian worship and witness in Colombia during the month of August. An invitation has been extended from Rev. Gloria Ulloa, Executive Secretary of our partner Presbytery of the North Coast, to mark this moment for the Presbyterian Church of Colombia (Iglesia Presbiteriana de Colombia) by participating in several events occurring by Zoom or through social media platforms:

Monday, Aug 10, 7 pm Eastern time:
  • Colombia Mission network webinar, Zoom link to be circulated

Wednesday, Aug 12, 7 pm Eastern time:
  • Presbyterian young adults and their hopes for peace

Wednesday, Aug 19, 7 pm Eastern time:
  • Colombia: Reformed education and peace-building

Wednesday, Aug 26, 7 pm Eastern time: Colombia:
  • Book launch, IPC testimonies for peace
English interpretation will be available for these events.

Contact Larry Hollar ( for more information regarding access to the interpretation and links to the activities.

Creating a Healthy Oxford Community
Mission and Outreach encourages the congregation to participate in the Kiwanis Club of Oxford - Senior Center Collection Project

Thanks for participating in the Mini-Food Drive last May 7. It produced over a ton of supplies and $1000 in donations for TOPSS. The Oxford Senior Center, while closed to members, continues to serve seniors in the greater Oxford area.  The Senior Center has received increased financial support for its varied programs, except in one area. Kiwanis is partnering with the Senior Center to collect items that seniors who are in financial need request from the Senior Center. With your help, we can increase the supply of these items for the next several months. No one knows how long this need will continue. The requested items are in the following list.

Hand soap - Body soap - Toothbrush - Toothpaste - Shaving cream
Paper towels - Napkins - Toilet paper - Laundry detergent - Dishwasher detergent
Lysol cleaner - Disinfectant wipes - Garbage bags

If you can, please donate 1 or 2 of any number of the above list. These items can be taken from what is on hand in your home. If not, adding these items to your grocery list will work.

The date for the Senior Center Collection is Thursday, August 13 at 922 Tollgate Drive from 10 AM till Noon. Anyone can drop off items during this time. Kiwanians will be outside to accept your donations, respecting social distance. You drop them off just outside your vehicle, wave, and leave.
School Bags
Thank you to all who helped fill the 50 School Bags for Church Women United. If you still have one (or some) bring them to the church office and they will be on their way to helping children in need of basic school supplies around the world.
Caring for Creation
The August edition of "Caring for Creation Monthly" was just published. This month you'll find news you may use and sustainable actions you may take. If you're not already subscribing to this e-newsletter, we hope that you will email to sign-up to receive these email updates. "Caring for Creation Monthly" is an initiative of our Caring for Creation Team, a congregational call that resulted from the "Called to Life!" mission discernment.
2020 Census
The Census Bureau is reaching out to faith communities around Ohio. They report that less than 50% of the residents in central Oxford have responded to the 2020 Census. Completing the 2020 Census helps inform the critical data that affects our voice in government, the funding in our community and how our community plans for the future.

Please talk with your family members, friends and neighbors. Encourage them to fill out the census. Visit or call 844-330-2020 to complete the census or learn more.

The 2020 Census is more than a population count. It's an opportunity to share our community's future!
Love Poured Out!
Thank you to all in the congregation for every expression of love shown to me in the recent celebration of my birthday. The shower of cards, of course I did not see that coming, calls, emails, and thanks to those who took a moment of your day to stop by the church to express well wishes. You all mean so much to me and I am grateful that you are a big part of my life.

Your conspiracy of love was greatly appreciated. I love you too!

Your Stewardship Matters

In her book The Soul of Money: Reclaiming the Wealth of Our Inner Resources, Lynne Twist writes, I challenge you to hold money as a common trust that we’re all responsible for using in ways that nurture and empower us, and all life, our planet, and all future generations. I challenge you to imbue your money with soul—your soul—and let it stand for who you are, your love, your heart, your word, and your humanity.

With the continuation of this pandemic, your stewardship remains as vital to ever as we increase mission support of our community partners, gather for worship via livestream, and faithfully connect in new and creative ways. Your gifts matter and make an impact as we respond together to the impact of COVID-19.

In lieu of a contribution to the physical offering plate, we would encourage you to mail your pledge/tithe to the church office or give through one of these digital avenues. To give online both conveniently and securely, you may access our online giving opportunity from your computer at
To give via QR code, scan the code in the image below with your phone and follow the brief prompts. View a video tutorial here on giving through QR code.
To give via text message, text opc1825 and your designated amount to 73256. For example, text "opc1825 25" to 73256 for an offering of $25 and follow the prompt. View a video tutorial here on giving via text message.
