Offering of Letters
Dear Members and Friends,

It’s time to write letters focused on hunger to our friends who have just gotten elected and are on their way to Washington to represent us.
Please take 7 minutes of your time to ask for their support. If you write a letter, Prue Dana will mail them!

Full letter writing kits are available in the church office.

The Peacemaking Committee
Connecting as the Beloved Community
Dick Munson and Libby Burch have lots of communications going on. One son in Japan, one daughter in Montreal, one son in New York City keeps facetiming busy. Libby is being her creative self, making fabric wall hangings, knitting and other activities that use her talents. Dick spends time in the barn where he is cranking out birdhouses, bird feeders, etc. that are being sold via the online Farmer’s Market, a year round venture. He continues to participate in “Trees for Life” – gave away 285 trees in 2020. Currently they are having fun with 5 cats (3 of whom just showed up at their Brown Road estate) and one dog. For Dick’s recent birthday Libby knitted him a cat scarf – very appropriate!

Scott and Nancy Parkinson have had no problems keeping busy during the past year. Nancy has created kitchen kits (utensils necessary for cooking) for her food science students at Miami. Virtual cooking requires the right implements. Nancy produced videos of techniques for the fledgling cooks, with Scott as her technical advisor. An after school nutrition education program, “Naan Stop Snacks” featuring Naan bread, is being offered to children, under Nancy’s and her student’s direction.

Scott has served as president of the OPC trustees this year, a time consuming position. He also is teaching full time at Ball State University. For fun he is researching the Civil War 79th Illinois regiment that will eventually become a book.

Sue Skillings, our masked, erstwhile church treasurer, can still be found at OPC, paying bills, depositing money and meeting with Nick. An avid bridge player, Sue and her group played at the gazebo at the Community Park when the weather was cooperative. Bridge is now on hold. Son Alan and family will be staying in a cabin at Hueston Woods during part of Christmas break, making trips into Oxford, to visit with Sue.

Living Into Hope

"Advent is not the kind of preparation that involves shopping and parties and cards.
Such illusions of abundance disguise the true cravings of our weary souls.
Advent is preparation for the demands of newness
that will break the tired patterns of fear in our lives."
