Called to Life Retreat
The participants in the Called to Life Retreat on January 18 were full of ideas and enthusiasm!! We have enough vision for a generation and projects for three congregations!! Three groups were formed, "Caring for Creation," "Eradicating Systemic Poverty," and "Life Skills/Life's Guiding Hands," to create proposals for projects to support our Calls. Click here for more details.
Mission and Outreach - Matthew 25 Congregation
It’s official. Oxford Presbyterian Church is a Matthew 25 congregation in the PC(USA).
What is a Matthew 25 congregation? Matthew 25:31–46 calls every follower of Jesus to actively engage the world. In doing so our faith comes alive as we impact the world around us and are transformed ourselves. Convicted by this gospel passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 and 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.
After several months of prayer and discernment, our Session approved at the January meeting a proposal from the Mission and Outreach Committee to become a Matthew 25 congregation with a focus on eradicating systemic poverty. The Mission and Outreach Committee took a moment at the February meeting to officially register online as a Matthew 25 congregation and deepen our commitment to Christ’s call in our lives today.
Mission and Outreach - Colombian Peace Report
On January 23 Karen Shearer, Robert Smith, Sue Wilson, and Melanie Ziegler attended a Miami Valley Presbytery presentation given by Angélica Munera Cervera, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Cartagena on the North Coast of Colombia.

Pastor Angélica updated members of OPC and others of the Colombian Mission Network from the Miami Valley as to the current status of the Colombian peace accords and her congregation’s special project (PAZES) on teaching children how to build peace in their own communities.

For this project, the congregation adopted a methodology is based on Montessori educational philosophy.

In this practice of peace, the children sit at a peace table or sit on the floor in a circle. The children take turns and talk about their emotions or conflicts and work on resolution.

Your Stewardship Matters

Avarice, greed and so forth are all based
on the mathematical truism that the more you get,
the more you have.
The remark of Jesus that it is more blessed to give
than to receive (Acts 20:35) is based on the human truth
that the more you give away in love, the more you are.
It is not just for the sake of other people
that Jesus tells us to give rather than get,
but for our own sakes too.
