Relay for Life

Ours Church's Relay for Life team is having a yard sale tomorrow (7.14.18) to benefit Cancer research and prevention education. Anyone is welcome to donate items if they have some housewares, kitchen items, toys, etc that they would like to see disappear. We are collecting items this evening at the Holmes' house, 210 Ridge Ave. If you would rather we pick up your items, just call Janet at 513-255-7229, someone could pick things up this evening. The sale is Tomorrow, Saturday, July 14 from 9:00 am - noon. Our Relay members have donated some wonderful items and we'd love to see any shoppers as well. High lights include numerous Longaberger baskets, vintage toys, and upscale dresses (daughters could wear to Homecoming). Thank you for any considerations to this cause. We are still collecting for the 2018 Relay for Life campaign.
Ripped from the Headlines -- What Can a Presbyterian Do????
The next meeting will be held Sunday, July 15. We plan to discuss the idea of standing up, standing for, and upholding one’s own beliefs and morals in these difficult times. How does a Christian stand by their beliefs when so many things are going on to challenge keeping one’s composure, how to discern what is most significant? The meeting will be led by and held at Nancy Moeckel’s home, 3900 Kehr Rd., 3:00-5:00 p.m.

For reading in advance the following is suggested, but is completely optional:

All are welcome whether or not you have attended any meetings in the past. Please consider joining this discussion in a supportive atmosphere where all views are encouraged and accepted.

Welcome Back Walkabout
The 2018 Welcome Back Walkabout is fast approaching and we need your help! Please consider volunteering for this important project ( sign up here ).
What is Walkabout?
Walkabout is an annual program (in its 15th year!) in which small groups of volunteers visit off-campus students in their rental houses and apartments at the beginning of fall semester. The volunteers welcome students back to town and provide useful information about living in Oxford. In addition to information, they also give chocolate chip cookies to each house that answers the door.
Why do we need Walkabout?
College towns have dealt with challenging student behavior for decades. Walkabout is based on the premise that interacting with students on their own doorstep makes them more aware of the broader Oxford community and makes a positive impact on behavior.
What do volunteers do?
Volunteers will visit between 20-30 off-campus properties during their 2-hour volunteer shift. You'll have a brief conversation with the students you reach about the Oxford community - city ordinances, local services, and community expectations of responsible and respectful behavior. This year, we'll also be offering students the opportunity to register to vote. We'll provide the information and talking points!
How many volunteers / who are you looking for?
We need about 150 volunteers. We welcome people of all ages, including community members, faculty, staff, and students. Children and pets are always nice additions to teams. The greater the diversity of participants, the better we represent the full community.

When is it?
Monday, August 27
4:00pm to 8:00pm
Volunteer time slots are from 4-6 and 6-8pm

If you are able to participate, please fill out the  Walkabout Volunteer registration form  by Friday, July 20th, 2018.
We hope you can join us for the 2018 Walkabout effort!

Thank you in advance for your participation!

On the Way with Ashley Boyle
Ashley continues to enjoy her journey. She reports that walking the Camino is a bit like being at summer camp...just where you hike nearly a half-marathon every day, and everyone speaks a different language! She definitely feels like she is part of a 'Camino family' and she is having the time of her life. The scenery and the architecture have been stunning.
She and a group of pilgrims for one segment of the Camino decided to get up and start hiking at 4:30 a.m., in order to be at the Iron Cross at daybreak. She laid her rocks there, which includes the rock from the Holy Land that she received at OPC. The other two rocks in her hand are a rock from Iona that she picked up when she was there several years ago, and a rock from her grandmother's collection who was quite an adventurous world traveler. Ashley said that the experience of laying rocks, and seeing others do the same, was incredibly moving and spiritual.
Soon Ashley will arrive in Santiago de Compostela, and then she plans to hike to Cape Finisterre, which is on the Atlantic coast. She is excited to spend a day at the beach after all of her walking! It is hard to believe that she has already been away for 5 weeks...she will return on July 25th.
