Hearing Devices Available
Now available in the sanctuary of the Memorial Church are hearing devices to enhance amplification during our worship services. If you are hearing impaired and would like some auditory assistance during the worship services, see an usher in the Narthex before the service.
 
A new sound system was installed at the Memorial Church last fall. As part of the sound system these hearing devices are now available to our parishioners to use during worship. Presently, there are four devices. If you think you could benefit from the use of a device, please tell an usher. These devices are kept charged and come with a lanyard and a piece that fits over the ear. Headphones could be used with the device. Please return the device to an usher in the Narthex at the close of the service.
 
The worship and music committee hopes these devices may help those who have trouble hearing during the service. More devices can become available if there are many who desire to use this assistance. At home using livestream you can adjust the volume. Using the lanyard, you will also be able to adjust the volume. Now the hearing impaired will have access to auditory assistance in worship at Oxford Presbyterian Church.

Eradicating Systemic Poverty - The Community Meal
The Community Meal is back on June 30. We plan a delightful "cook-out" style meal with brats, sausages, hot dogs provided. All we ask for from the congregation is salads, chips and cookies. If you can come by to help "grill," set up or serve, that would be great.

Summer Reading Opportunity!
On behalf of OPC members, the ESP team has purchased copies of a book, available now, at no cost, for summer reading, in preparation for a late summer/early fall book discussion group that focuses on poverty and scripture. The title of the book is: Always With Us? What Jesus Really Said about the Poor by Liz Theoharis.

This book is challenging, informative and ultimately inspiring. The author reaches as far back in time as the early teachings of Jesus to the era of now, when poverty and inequality face so many in a land of relative wealth.

You may pick up a copy of the book in the church office.

Connecting as the Beloved Community
Bridgite Dickerson adjusted to the challenge of working from home for three months, early on, but is thankful to have returned to the office, interacting with everyone. Charles, along with Bridgite, utilized his Facebook page to share video messages of hope and encouragement. Bridgite has been working as a Wedding Coordinator with her sister, participating in Zoom Women’s Bible Studies, and reading. On weekends, Charles and Bridgite rise early to see the sunrise and take nature walks. “Through it all, we have learned to see the blessing in this storm, and have a strategy to enjoy life right at home.”

Jan and Gene Krebs, being polar opposites in some ways, reacted differently to the pandemic. Jan, a self described recluse, did not find the pandemic to be so difficult. She filled her time cooking - finding creative ways to use what was in the freezer or the cupboard, “Oh, look what I can do with pickles and squash!” Gene, the Gregarious, kept busy via Zoom. He is working on bringing ranked choice voting to Ohio and stays very involved with trying to do right by Ohioans. They have a building project at home, that has been in progress for 35 years, according to Jan, which the pandemic did not do a whole lot for.

Dave and Amy Kraushar, with Emily a spring graduate of Ohio University, David at Purdue and Ethan at Ohio State have experienced the pandemic as empty nesters. Amy, a teacher in the Talawanda District, vented her frustrations by going to nearby Hanover Park, sometimes meeting friends and walking…and walking……and walking some more. "I never expected to be a computer tech guru.” Trying to work out the stumbling blocks of the internet world, for herself and her students, brought much frustration. Dave, a veterinarian, continued his work, a fair bit outdoors, and did lots of yard work at home. Making the most of getting out of the house was a great stress reliever for both of them.
