September Stewardship Focus – Christian Education

Ministry and mission at Oxford Presbyterian Church takes on so many forms as we answer Christ's call in our community, nation and world.
Adult Christian Education (ACE)

Adult Christian Education at OPC is thriving! Throughout 2019, there have been many opportunities to learn and grow our faith. During Lent, a number of forums were offered to learn about different spiritual practices. During the summer, our popular “Ripped from the Headlines” series from 2018 returned for a well-attended and considerate discussion on the topic of abortion, facilitated by Anne Bailey.

This fall, Carrie Ann Sharitt is leading discussions on four books ( see next article ) covering social justice themes; high school youth and adults are welcome! And finally, ACE encourages everyone to participate in one of the five Called to Life groups currently being offered, which are vital to the continual forward thinking and planning of OPC’s priorities and mission. All are welcome to ACE activities; the more church members and friends participate, the more you will feel connected to your sisters and brothers in Christ.

Please join us this month in reading "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stephenson.

A discussion, led by Carrie Ann Sharitt, will take place in October. Happy reading!

Does it seem like your “best laid plans” often go astray?
Or have you experienced a time when your plans went smoothly, and you felt an alignment with what God wanted and what you hoped for? How do we get more of the second and less of the first? This is what we will explore in next weeks’ study in Called to Life!  Jeremiah 29:11-14 will give us some insights. You can still join us in this lively and engaging study. Call Pat Gifford at 513-255-5416 to find a class that fits your schedule.
Crop Walk
The annual Crop Walk for hunger will soon be here! This year’s event will take place on Saturday, September 28 , beginning at 11 a.m. at the Uptown Park.

The Crop Hunger Walk is a community and Miami University fundraising event that will help to end hunger throughout the world. Although the walk is a Greek Week event, it is important for Oxford, in that 25% of the proceeds go to TOPSS, our local food pantry. You can register online if you want to walk (or run) and ask friends to support you. Register here . For more information, see Prue Dana in the Narthex Sunday following worship.

Thanks to Noel Albarran for serving as our September acolyte (and to Spencer Lykins for filling in one Sunday)!
Living Into Hope
Every act of love, gratitude and kindness;
every work of art or music inspired by the love of God and
delight in the beauty of his creation;
every minute spent teaching a severely handicapped child to read or walk;
every act of care and nurture, of comfort and support, for one’s fellow human beings,
and for that matter one’s fellow non-human creatures;
and of course every prayer, all Spirit-led teaching,
every deed which spreads the gospel,
builds up the church, embraces and embodies holiness rather than corruption,
and makes the name of Jesus honored in the world
– all of this will find its way, through the resurrecting power of God,
into the new creation which God will one day make.
