Healthy Minds Healthy Kids Rally

In July, Families Together joined the Healthy Minds, Healthy Kids (HMHK) Campaign at The New York Foundling in East Harlem to rally against federal Medicaid cuts. Families, youth, elected leaders, and behavioral health providers came together to defend children's access to quality mental and behavioral health care across New York State. Their unified call sent a clear message to policymakers: protecting Medicaid is not just a budget decision-it's a commitment to the health, stability, and future of New York's children.

"We urge our leaders to prioritize care, not cuts. Now is the time for New York to take bold, protective action by investing in a stronger, more equitable system of care"

Back to School: Mental Wellness Around the New School Year

Back-to-school brings change, new routines, and a mix of emotions for both kids and parents. For families and Family Peer Advocates, it’s also a chance to focus on mental wellness so everyone starts the year steady and strong.

Tips for Starting the Year with Confidence:

Validate mixed feelings: Kids can feel excited and nervous at the same time. Sometimes the most helpful thing is simply listening.

Ease into routines: Start shifting bedtimes and wake-ups so mornings feel smoother when school begins.

Create a wind-down zone: Set a time and place for screens to be put away in the evening, and slowing down before bed helps everyone rest better.

Spot and name strengths: Whether it’s creativity, empathy, or problem-solving, remind kids they can apply those strengths in the school year.

Look for small ways to connect: Even a few minutes of genuine time together can make a big difference.
