NYS Budget Update! The One House Assembly and Senate Budgets
|
|
Last month FTNYS posted a response to Governor Hochul's proposed budget. Soon the New York State Senate and Assembly will be issuing their version of the proposed state budget and negotiations will begin.
At the time of this writing the one-house budgets are not out yet, or we have not had time to analyze them for a full response and how they would impact New York's youth and families. You can expect a detailed report and response to go out in a separate email in the near future.
In the meantime, please view our 2023 policy priorities and stay tuned for big updates for this exciting and busy time at the Capitol!

Governor Hochul Launches Statewide Listening Tour on Youth Mental Health
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced a statewide series of listening sessions and a spring summit aimed at exploring the issues impacting the mental health of youth throughout New York State. Together, these initiatives will build on the Governor's $1 billion plan to overhaul New York State's mental health continuum of care and provide an opportunity for experts to advise state leaders on future policy recommendations to improve youth wellness.
"It's time we put the mental well-being of our youth at the forefront and listen what they're going through to gain a deeper understanding of this issue and meaningfully address the problems young New Yorkers face."
Governor Hochul
|
During these sessions everyone will discuss the mental health priorities outlined in Governor Hochul’s 2023 State of the State plan and Fiscal Year 2024 Executive Budget and ask for your feedback on how to best make the new opportunities work for your community. Your input will be integral in OMH’s planning process for these historic resources aiming to expand housing, outpatient programs, school-based clinics and hospital services, and increase insurance coverage for mental health services.
