Renewable chemical bill advances to governor
The Iowa House on Wednesday passed legislation to allow for a new biorenewable chemical production tax credit, and the bill is now on its way to Gov. Terry Branstad to sign. The House passed the bill 95-1. The Senate had already passed Senate File 2300 by a vote of 46-3. The legislation was a priority for the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Gov. Branstad is expected to sign the legislation. Keep reading...

Local Option Sales Tax receives consideration
Members of a House Ways and Means subcommittee met Tuesday to consider  House Study Bill 644 . The bill would allow cities in certain "qualified counties" as defined by the bill where a local option sales tax is not currently in place, to self-determine whether to hold an election for the imposition of the tax, without the rest of the county. Provisions in the bill would require any new or amended sales tax implemented under the law to dedicate 50 percent to property tax relief. Keep reading...

Water quality discussions continue
The Iowa Legislature continues to have conversations about water quality funding for Iowa to address the goals set out by the Nutrient Reduction Strategy. This morning, the House Ways and Means Committee passed House Study Bill 654, which provides financial assistance for municipalities wanting to upgrade wastewater treatment and drinking water facilities. The legislation calls for sales tax collected from metered drinking water to be used as grants of up to $500,000 to upgrade facilities. Keep reading...

Building a Successful Strategic Marketing Plan

Why is it so important to have a marketing plan? You have a budget. You know tactics that work. Why do they need to be developed into a plan?
The short and simple answer: you need to measure what you're doing to be sure it's effective and adjust where necessary.
A strategic marketing plan is the framework for how you're going to reach your business goals. Think of it as a marketing and sales blueprint.
