Iowa Business Day on the Hill hugely successful
ABI once again partnered with the National Federation of Independent Business to sponsor Iowa Business Day on the Hill. The 2016 event was a huge success with Speaker of the House Linda Upmeyer and Majority Leader Chris Hagenow speaking to ABI members on Monday and Tuesday. To top it off, the Legislature passed a bill addressing two of ABI's top priorities. Keep reading...

ABI priorities sent to governor
The Legislature on Tuesday passed legislation that addresses two of ABI's top priorities - consumable supplies and coupling.   House File 2433  has been sent to Gov. Terry Branstad where it awaits his signature.
ABI members have advocated since 2013 to codify definitions for supplies used in the manufacturing process. For many years the Department of Revenue has arbitrarily defined what is considered a replacement part (non-taxable) and what is a supply (taxable) for manufacturers.  Keep reading...

Biochemical tax credit program bills advance
Bills that create the new biochemical production tax credit program advanced this week. ABI supports this proposal. The Senate passed  SF 2300  46-3 Wednesday. The House passed their version of the bill,   HF 2288 , out of House Ways and Means, amending it to mirror provisions added to the Senate bill regarding reporting, definitions and a sunset. Revenue Estimating Conference adjusts state income
The Revenue Estimating Conference (REC) met Wednesday to review expenditures and receipts for the state in the last quarter. The REC adjusted the estimate downward for 2016, but predicted a moderate increase for 2017 and 2018. The most recent meeting of the REC allows the Legislature to finalize budget targets and move forward with negotiations to end the session. Read online.

ABI's PAC needs your help
ABI's success is only possible with your help. This year ABI had defeated more than 10 anti-business bills in the Iowa Senate and worked to provide clarity to Iowa manufacturers and Iowa taxpayers. None of this would've been possible without your help. The legislative filing deadline is Friday. Then ABI has some major work to do. The association works to educate candidates and legislators on pro-jobs policies. We also raise funds to elect candidates who support pro-jobs policies to the Iowa legislature. Will you consider giving $100, less than $10 for each anti-business bill that was defeated this year?  Click here  to donate today.

Iowa bidding law turns into government competition legislation
An amended version of Senate File 1 passed the Iowa House Thursday 51-44.  SF 1 passed the Iowa Senate in 2015 and was amended on the floor of the Iowa House Thursday. The amendment, which was passed on a party-line vote, allows state agencies to consider bids from Iowa manufacturers. Keep reading...
