All four services!
Invite your friends and neighbors!
Join us in worship for this special service of blessing over our students, teachers, administrators, and staff as they head back to school!

And help us make the morning even more special by bringing a breakfast snack to share at the Welcome Center and Cook Foyer! Between services we'll have the opportunity to gather in these different welcome areas to snack and spend time together.
If you have joined our Longview FUMC family anytime since July 2017 we would love to see you at the luncheon this Sunday, August 19. Email Linda Cunningham at or call 903-753-4463

Summer is a busy time! Between vacations, family trips, mission trips, camps, and just enjoying the season we've all been going 24/7. We appreciate your continued faithfulness to consistent stewardship so that our church's ministry can continue to grow and thrive!

Where are you connected?
In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Children's Ministry is prayerfully searching for small group leaders for our Wednesday Night Children's Program: Kidz Blitz. An hour and a half of your time once a week will make a lasting impression on the lives of our children here at First United Methodist Church. Contact Loren:  or 903-753-4463.
Acolyte Training

Acolytes are members of the congregation who help with the worship service: as examples of worshipers, as leaders of the congregation during the service, as assistants for church leaders. They enter the church in procession at the beginning of the service carrying the light of Christ. At the end of the service, they extinguish the candles as they carry the light of Christ back out. We are beginning a new school year in the church. We are excited about welcoming new acolytes and look forward to seeing our returning acolytes. Sunday, August 26th immediately following the 10:45 services, we will be meeting in the Sanctuary for a brief acolyte training. Parents please attend this training with your child. Parents, if you are interested or would like more information on being an acolyte coordinator, please contact Loren Buchanan -

Asbury House Garage Sale Thanks

A big thank you to all from FUMC who contributed items, volunteered during sale week, shopped and bought items at the Annual Asbury House Garage Sale.  A special thanks to Charlie and his crew for being tolerant of our invasion and providing special help to make the sale successful.  Also, a big thanks to our Sr. Pastor and First Lady for their help and support during sale week.

We believe that when all expenses are paid the 2018 sale will net about $38,000 to help fund Asbury House’s operation.

LIHN returns to FUMC September 9-16, 2018

LIHN (Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network) returns to FUMC the week of September 9-16. During the week our church ministers to guests who are temporarily homeless and are working to change their circumstances. It takes approximately 49 people in addition to extra people for set-up, take-down, and to wash linens to take care our guests. In June we had 32 individuals and 7 Sunday School classes help during the week. We would like to encourage you to come see how this ministry works by volunteering to help. Areas where you can help include:
● Transportation-moving guests to/from the church/day facility
● Providing a Meal-supplying a healthy and filling meal
● Serving-being available from 5-8 p.m. to organize/cleanup
● Overnight Hosting-sleeping at the church from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Our greatest need is from van drivers that can pick up the guests at the church at 6 am and take them and stay at the day facility until 8 am. Also, van drivers are needed at 4:50 pm to pick up the guests at the day facility and return them to the church.
Life Together at FUMC Longview
Dear FUMC Family,

What a beautiful reception was had by all on Sunday, August 5, 2018.  You are a blessing to me and I greatly appreciate your prayers, support and love.  You have touched my heart and taught me much throughout my time at FUMC.  The wisdom I have gleaned from you will carry me through this next journey of life.  My soul is filled with gratitude for you!  I have such great excitement for the ministries of FUMC as the Fall and Spring unfold with opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, missions, worship and care for the soul.  My encouragement to each of you is find where you can serve the Lord with gladness and singleness of heart.  As you find your place at FUMC, remember to keep loving one another and building relationships.  The friendships I have made with you will remain with me forever.

What bible study are you taking this fall?  Have you invited someone to join you?  Which church service do your prefer?  How is your Sunday School class? If you don’t have one, please try one – you will be blessed!! Have you invited someone from church to lunch or meet for coffee or join you on a walk?
As you read all of these questions, you might think of Mary – as this is what she would ask – but I challenge you in all of these areas because your lives will be enriched through these interactions.

May the love of Jesus Christ embrace you and may you go in peace to love and serve the Lord!!!
 Rev. Mary Collier
