The Voice
May 2, 2018
Sunday, April 29 we celebrated our graduating high school seniors! We have loved on and cared for these students for many years. Please join us in congratulating them and continuing to pray for how God will guide and grow them in the journeys to come!
Welcome New Members!
Bocca Sue Rambo joined our church on Sunday, April 22.
Patti Lawerence and Jerry and Saundra Harper became members of our church on Sunday, April 29.
Travis Buchanan became an official member of our church and is pictured with his wife Loren (already a member) and their adorable daughter, Evelyn!
Brandon Cernetisch also made his membership official. He has been on staff as our AV and Media Specialist since October 2017.
Dollars for missions
Did you know that when you place single dollar bills in the offering plate on Sunday morning that it goes directly to help us fund the mission work of FUMC? So far this year we have used these funds to support Newgate Mission, Asbury House, LIHN, and Beds of Hope. So check your pockets and the bottom of your purse for a dollar bill on Sunday morning and support missions!

A very special lake day is planned just for you on Saturday, May 5 from 2-8 p.m. We will travel to Lake Cherokee to swim, fish, tube and eat together! Families are welcome. Bring your fishing poles, tackle, goggles, towels and floats as we load the bus at 2 p.m. at the church and head to Ms. Janice’s lake place. If you have a life jacket you may bring but we will have some available. Parents are needed to help chaperone as well as sign a waiver if your student wants to ride in the boat or tube. Forms available with Janice Crane.
Follow along with everything the youth are up to on their social media links below!

Life Together at FUMC Longview
God continues to bless us at FUMC. There are so many signs of new vitality and the Spirit is stirring us to greater things ahead.

As you can see in the attached financial summary, we are in a decent financial position. An above normal amount of annual giving early this year is placing us in this favorable position, along with expense controls in all of our ministry areas. Your faithfulness and generosity continues to be critical as we move forward in God’s will.

You will soon be hearing from our Stewardship Chairs about how we are all called to grow in our generosity in support of God’s work here. I hope that you will prayerfully respond.

Grace and Peace,
Jay
Special Laos Mission Learning Event
Wednesday, May 16
FUMC Faith Center
5:30-6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 16 we are proud to be hosting, at the request of Bishop Scott Jones, a Laos mission interpreter who will share with us what the United Methodist Church is doing in Laos and how we, here in Longview, can be a part of it. It's an opportunity to learn about a part of our church that we don't often get the chance to hear about. We will have a dinner of chicken enchiladas, rice, beans, chips, salsa, and salad.
Please RSVP by calling 903-753-4463 or email [email protected]
Joyful Harpist to perform for May 10 Pioneers

We are in for a real treat this month when we welcome professional harpist Cherith Hendrich for our Pioneer program 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, in the Faith Center. She will be playing “Songs from the Heart” on her 44-string Camac Clio pedal harp! Cherith has been playing the harp since she was 10 and regularly performs throughout Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. Check out her website at  www.thejoyfulharp.com

Michelle and our kitchen staff will be serving a delicious meal: chicken enchilada casserole, charro beans, rice, chips and salsa, and tres leches cake for dessert. Cost is $5.

Those with May birthdays will be recognized and receive a birthday cake compliments of United Methodist Women.

Meet in the Newnham Garden

On Pentecost Sunday, May 20, we will gather in the Newnham Garden after the 10:45 services to go to four corners of our church property and "stake" it. This is a special time of prayer where we will ask God to pour out the Holy Spirit just as He did on the first Pentecost! We will celebrate what God has done and seek to do even more in the years of ministry to come as we endeavor to be a Beacon of Hope for All in Longview!
