President's Message from Carol Watts
Vote on or before March 3!!!!  Check  VotersEdge before you mark your choices on your ballot. Then mail it postmarked on or before March 3 or find a ballot drop off box or full-service Vote Center.  After the election, you can find whether your ballot was counted. Transparency works!!  

You can be very proud of the work our League has done in the last months to register and inform voters. Thanks again to our hardworking team!   

We were so pleased to receive a proclamation from the City Council of San Jose from Mayor Liccardo declaring the League’s 100th Birthday of February 14 “League of Women Voters Day” !   Think about how special it is to be 100 years old! It is a testimony to the importance men and women place on a nonpartisan approach to Making Democracy Work. Our work is more important than ever.

Our March speaker is San Jose City Councilmember Raul Peralez. He was elected in 2015 to represent District 3, San Jose's downtown core and surrounding neighborhoods. He will be speaking on  Critical Issues Facing the City of San Jose .

Councilmember Peralez's vision is to "Work to make San Jose a city where everyone can afford to live, find dignified work and play in peace".

Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the League

Join our colleagues from all of the Leagues of Women Voters of Santa Clara County in a festive celebration of the League's 100th Anniversary. Cindy Chavez will host this informative event which will include guest speakers sharing the important work that the County Leagues have accomplished over the years. Beverages and a light dinner will be served.

City of San Jose Proclaimed February 14th as League of Women Voters Day!
On February 11th, 2020 Mayor Sam Liccardo and the San Jose City Council proclaimed Feb. 14 as League of Women Voters Day. The council presented us with a proclamation in honor of the League's 100th birthday and the San Jose/Santa Clara League's 75th birthday. The award was accepted by President Carol Watts and other League members.

Action Committee Update from Gloria Chun Hoo  
After much discussion at the February meeting, the Action Committee decided to hold off taking any position or making any recommendation on the Fair Elections Initiative. This initiative is now gathering signatures for a ballot measure for November 2020 for San Jose voters. The committee heard arguments by proponents at the January meeting and gathered information about the proposal from Ben Field, head of the South Bay Labor Council, and from SJSU political science professor Garrick Percival. The committee found.... read more HERE
Voter Service Committee Update from Sara Nicolson
Happy March, fellow League Members. By the time you read this, we will either be in the last few days of voting in the 202O Presidential Primary Election or all done with ballots still being counted. It’s been a busy month for the Voter Service Team. Martha Beattie has presented at least three times on ballot measures in San Jose and Santa Clara (Measures E and C) to many appreciative and engaged crowds.

Census 2020 Outreach Update   from Sandy Mory
It is critical that Everyone is Counted in the 2020 Census.  An undercount affects our political system as well as resources for the community.
