October 15, 2022 Vol. 2 No. 4
Greetings from the President
The wheels are turning at WAGS Pet Therapy as we are finally back and running in full force. It has been quite a year so far. We are currently serving 60 different facilities in the greater Louisville area and provide well over a 100 pet therapy visits each month in our community. The demand for pet therapy teams keeps increasing and we are doing our best to fulfill each request.

The pandemic has showcased our strength and resilience as an organization. After struggling to maintain Ambassador teams through the pandemic with the plethora of restrictions and uncontrollable obstacles presented to our organization and members, I am pleased to report that our number of Ambassador Teams has just about tripled since the beginning of the year! It is wonderful to see our teams back in action in the community, supporting our schools, hospitals, senior care facilities, and much more.

Over the last several months our members have come together in many different ways to hone in on our agenda items as a growing organization. Through our incredible membership, we continue to work together to educate and evaluate new teams and to improve our publications and website and fundraising efforts. The camaraderie and dependability of WAGS radiates both within and towards the greater Louisville community. I am very grateful to work with an incredibly passionate group of volunteers who are committed to propelling this organization and community forward.

WAGS President
Thank you for making a difference for WAGS during this year’s Give for Good Louisville event. This was the first year for WAGS to participate and, thanks to you, it was a huge success.
Here are a few facts:
  • There were 141 non-profits in Tier 1 (the tier WAGS fell into). WAGS earned the third place Grand Prize with most gifts received and earned $2000 in prize money.
  •  WAGS had the 2nd highest donations of 163 unique donors. Reaching our goal of 90 gave us an additional $800 in prize money.
  • WAGS won the mid-day prize of $1000 with the most donations between 9-11 am.
  •  Regular donations exceeded $10,000.
A big thank you to NEAT Bourbon Bar for sponsoring Paws for a Cause. Their goal was to raise $500 for WAGS. They exceeded their goal by 224% and raised almost $1200. Thank you to all who joined us that evening. A huge thank you to General Manager, Craig Rupprecht. The next time you visit NEAT – please thank them on behalf of WAGS.

WAGS in the News!

Spectrum News recently did a story on WAGS and followed a couple of our therapy dogs at Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary. Studies have shown that therapy dogs decrease stress, increase positive emotion, promotes engagement and learning, reduces task avoidance and aggression in classrooms. Take a couple of minutes to watch the story for yourself – it will put a smile on your face.

WAGS Works in Many Different Ways!
Member and Special Events Chair Tami Harbolt, PhD delivered much needed towels to the new low-cost clinic, Tail-End Vetcare. Tami not only delivered the towels to the new clinic but organized and collected the towels at our September 2022 Membership Meeting. Once again, through the diligent work of our members, more goodness was provided to those in need. Thank you WAGS members and Tami!
