Fairfax County Public Schools
Spring Comprehensive
Survey for Families
Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Office of Research and Strategic Improvement (ORSI) is evaluating FCPS’ teaching and learning efforts throughout this school year. This survey is part of a year-long study to gather input from families and students about FCPS’ instructional strengths and areas of improvement. Your input will help Superintendent Brabrand and the School Board gain a deeper understanding of these issues.

Tomorrow, Friday, June 11 at 8:00 p.m. is the deadline to complete the survey.
Resilient Fairfax Online Public Survey
The Fairfax County Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination (OEEC) has announced the opening of an online public survey to assess climate vulnerabilities and risks within the community. This survey, which will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on July 2, is part of the Resilient Fairfax initiative, a county-wide effort to increase the community’s overall resilience to climate impacts.

The survey asks respondents to share their personal experiences with climate impacts such as flooding and preparedness for extreme weather and temperature events. Additionally, the survey seeks input from respondents on potentially vulnerable segments of the population and types of infrastructure within the county.

Findings from the survey will help to inform the development of the county’s first-ever Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan. Respondents may complete the survey in one of four languages: English, Korean, Spanish, or Vietnamese.
Visit the Resilient Fairfax Public Engagement web page to access the survey.
6,000 H-2B Visas Available for
Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala
On May 25, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a temporary final rule making available an additional 22,000 H-2B temporary nonagricultural guest worker visas for fiscal year 2021 to employers who are likely to suffer irreparable harm without these additional workers.

While 16,000 of the additional visas are limited to returning workers, 6,000 visas have been reserved for nationals of the Northern Triangle countries (Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala), regardless of whether those nationals are returning workers. The supplemental visas support President Biden’s vision of expanding lawful pathways for protection and opportunity for individuals from the Northern Triangle and address the needs of U.S. employers at risk of permanent and severe financial loss.

The H-2B nonimmigrant classification applies to noncitizen workers seeking to perform nonagricultural labor or services in the United States on a temporary basis, usually lasting no longer than one year (unless the employer’s need is a one-time event that could last up to three years), for which U.S. workers are not available.

For more information please visit the USCIS website.
Metro Board approves more service, later hours, and more convenient
fare options as region reopens
Metro's Board of Directors today approved improvements to Metrobus and Metrorail service and fares that will support the region's recovery and encourage more customers to return to transit.

Rail service will be extended to midnight, seven days a week, in July, and other bus and rail service improvements and fare changes will start being implemented in the Fall, beginning Labor Day weekend, as many in the region prepare to go back to work and school.

"This package of service and fare changes makes it easier for riders to return to Metro and give transit a try," said Metro Board Chair Paul C. Smedberg. "The Board today voted to provide more frequent trains and buses, addresses the historic transfer fee to promote connecting from bus to rail, and includes special weekend fares that will encourage visitors and area families to take transit as they start traveling again."

Dates of key service changes and improvements will be detailed in future announcements. Learn more about the improvements approved today.
