Dear Neighbor,

This Friday, we'll publish our monthly Braddock Beacon newsletter. But there are a few time-sensitive items that we wanted to share sooner.

Do you have sensitive documents that include personally identifiable information piling up at home? On Saturday August 7, our popular Document Shredding event comes to Braddock District! Bring up to four medium-sized boxes of documents to be shredded for free. More information is included below.

I am pleased to announce that the School Age Child Care (SACC) program will be available in all FCPS elementary schools in Braddock District this Fall. Though the program is operated by Fairfax County government, it would not be possible without the great partnership we have with Fairfax County Public Schools. With FCPS returning to five days a week of in-person instruction, it's important for working families to have this option for before and after school. For details and registration, visit the SACC website.
I've enjoyed seeing many of you at our Braddock Nights and Arts in the Parks entertainment series. I'm looking forward to our upcoming performances, especially the hit children's band Rocknoceros on Saturday!

Summer Entertainment Series
This Saturday at the Children's Arts in the Parks in front of the Audrey Moore RECenter, I'm excited to introduce Rocknocerous. Rocknoceros has entertained tens of thousands of fans around the country, performing at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and the Kennedy Center. Since its inception in 2005, Rocknoceros has won nine Washington Area Music Awards and has found its way into the hearts and homes of music-lovers of all ages.

View the flyer below for the full performance schedule.
Community Meeting on Lake Accotink Dredging Alternatives August 5 (Virtual)
After months of site assessment, sediment sampling, and analysis, county staff and their team of consultants are prepared to share their alternatives analysis with the community on options for the Lake Accotink Dredging Project. Two community meetings were scheduled. An in-person meeting took place last Thursday at Annandale High School. Given the interest in this project, we want to make sure that everyone is able to participate. Therefore, a second, virtual meeting will be held on Thursday, August 5, at 7:00 p.m. The link to the meeting is available on the project website. The presentation of the alternatives analysis will be the same at the second meeting so that everyone gets the same information.

The county’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services and its contractor, Arcadis, will present the results of their alternatives analysis on methods for dredging the sediment from the lake, transporting the dredge material via pipeline to the dewatering location, selecting the dewatering location, methods for dewatering the dredge material, and disposing of the dredge material. The Alternatives Analysis Report prepared by Arcadis is posted on the project webpage, so residents have an opportunity to review it in advance of the meeting. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for community members to provide their comments. For those unable to attend or who wish to share additional thoughts, comments may also be submitted online.

Please mark your calendars to participate in this important meeting. While there will be some disruption during the dredging process (tentatively scheduled to start in early 2023 and run through 2025), we want to make sure we have the community’s input as we all work together to identify the best way to save Lake Accotink!
