The Fairfax County Health Department's Vaccine Dashboard is now live. This dashboard provides additional transparency into the County's COVID-19 vaccine distribution and will give those waiting for an appointment a sense of how quickly we are moving through the queue.

Fairfax County's Registration Status Checker** is also now live! Residents can use the new Vaccine Registration Status Checker search tool to find their registration record, confirm what day they registered, and see for what date the Health Department is currently scheduling appointments. To find your record, enter your first name, last name, and the email address used to register for the vaccine.

On a different COVID-19 topic, I'm excited to announce that on Monday, February 22, at 7:00 p.m., I'll be hosting a virtual town hall featuring Fairfax County Health Director Dr. Gloria Addo-Ayensu. I invite everyone to tune in and learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. You can submit questions before the town hall by emailing [email protected], or calling my office at (703) 425-9300. Shifting gears a bit, on behalf of the Braddock District, I’d like to thank everyone who came out and donated to our first Stuff the Bus Food Drive of 2021. It was a massive success. Both days were quite cold, but Braddock District locations still took in 14,730 pounds of food valued at more than $24,000! ECHO has already received the donations and used them to stock their food pantry shelves. If you were unable to attend, you can still Stuff the Bus virtually by donating online!

As COVID-19 vaccinations continue in our community, the Health Department has launched a series of new technology solutions to help residents further understand vaccine status in the Fairfax Health District.

The new tools include:

Registered residents may use the new Vaccine Registration Status Checker search tool to find their registration record, what day they registered and to see what date the Health Department is currently scheduling appointments for. To find their record, people will need to enter their first name, last name and the email address used to register for the vaccine.

The Health Department will soon begin to send weekly updates to everyone on the waitlist to confirm they are still in the queue and to provide links to the tools above to find additional information.

Those eligible for a vaccine can register online or by phone with the Fairfax County Health Department. The registration process collects basic information so your eligibility can be confirmed and then you can be added you to the waitlist.

Virginia is scheduled to launch a new statewide COVID-19 vaccine registration system on Tuesday, February 16; however, the Fairfax Health District will not be using the new system at this time.

When residents of Fairfax County, the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church, and the towns of Vienna, Herndon and Clifton are eligible to register for a vaccine, please continue using the registration system already in place. All vaccine appointments in the Fairfax Health District will continue to be managed by our local registration system.

For those already on the waitlist, do not register again on the new statewide system.

Also, Virginia is launching a new vaccine call center. The Fairfax County Health Department vaccine call center will continue to be operational, and Fairfax residents should call (703) 324-7404 with registration questions.

Construction to replace the Smokewood Bridge is set to begin at the end of February 2021. The project includes the removal of the existing damaged steel bridge and installation of a new fiberglass pedestrian bridge and related work.

The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is currently in the process of notifying nearby communities and will be distributing "Pardon our Dust" letters.

Once the contractor mobilizes to the site, this work will take approximately one week to complete. Residents should expect occasional traffic at the maintenance access point to facilitate the passage of materials and equipment. As a safety precaution, a portion of the trail in Smokewood Park will be closed to users during construction.

The Braddock District Land Use and Environment Committee will be holding a virtual meeting on Tuesday, February 16, at 7:00 p.m. The agenda will include an update on the Braddock Senior Housing Project (on the NVTC/Erickson site), discussion of the plans for affordable housing on the Government Center campus, and an update on the Comprehensive Plan Amendment for the Public Storage site at the northwest corner of Lee Highway and Waples Mill Road. Braddock District Land Use and Environment Committee meetings are open to the public and interested residents are encouraged to participate.

In preparation for the Lake Accotink dredging project, sediment cores (up to 8 feet deep) will be collected and analyzed to determine sediment conditions across the lake. The information gathered will help inform decisions about dredging, transport of dredged material, dewatering, and reuse or disposal of the dewatered sediment. Sampling teams will use both a Vibracore Pontoon Boat or, in shallower areas, a Jon boat to collect sediment cores. These samples will then be transferred to a sample processing team in the marina parking lot before being sent to laboratories for analysis. The work will begin the week of February 15 and last for approximately two weeks. On Friday, February 19, at 1:00 p.m., County staff and its contractors will be holding a public education session to explain more about the sampling process. It will be held in the marina parking lot—look for the truck with a tent next to it.

Community members are encouraged to attend to learn more. We hope that this will also be recorded for those who are not able to attend. In case of inclement weather, the rain/snow date is February 22 at 1:00 p.m.

Food for Others, a local nonprofit dedicated to addressing food insecurity was recently featured in, Food for Others, an award winning short documentary by Director Layth Alwatban.

The film provides an inside look on the struggles many local families face from the perspective of Food for Others' Food Pantry workers.

In celebration of Black History Month, Fairfax County, in partnership with Cox Communications, proudly presents the first virtual Black History Program, taking place on Friday, February 19 from 7:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.

The program can be viewed on Channel 16 or via live stream. After February 19, the event can be viewed on demand.
