We are excited for Amanda Barbour to join the Lakehill staff this year as the school nurse. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Mount Mary College Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, Barbour has worked in pediatric and neonatal critical care, as a pediatric travel nurse, and as a post-op nurse in an outpatient pediatric surgery center, where she was also the designated infection control and employee health nurse. Most recently, she served as the registered nurse at a summer camp where she implemented and enforced strict infection control and social distancing guidelines, to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
“Children make me laugh and I always appreciate their honesty and bravery,” says Barbour. She is excited to jump into this new role and design and implement a school clinic for the Lakehill families. Barbour will maintain student health records, administer care to students and staff as needed, respond to emergencies, and conduct relevant training to faculty and staff.
A family oriented person, Barbour is proud of her large family and German heritage. She is the oldest of three siblings. Her mom is one of nine children and her dad is one of five. She grew up playing sports and taking dance lessons, and is a die hard Green Bay Packers fan. Her parents, after 35 years on the waiting list, have Packers season tickets at Lambeau Field. She loves to travel, enjoys the outdoors, fashion, art, live music, and exploring the city of Dallas.
“I am passionate about helping children and animals,” Barbour said. As a nurse, she takes pride in making children and families feel safe and well cared for. “My mom always told me, people may not always remember exactly what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”
Please stop in to welcome Amanda to Lakehill.
