Making Their Mark
The Varsity Track Team concluded their season at the TAPPS State Track Meet in Waco this past Saturday, May 4. The 4x100 meter relay team of Jourdyn Owens, Hayden Yoss, Lynley Waggoner, and Alanna Stern placed fourth overall with a personal record time of 51.84. This time also broke the previous school record set in 2011 by Kara Gamboa ('11), Jenna Burch ('13), Ayana Heard ('12), and Alexis Johnson ('13).

After taking third in the open 400m the past two years, Stern placed second in her open event with a time of 61.78, while Owens set a new personal best in the 100m with a time of 13.07.

The same relay team took home a bronze medal in the 4x200m relay with a personal best time of 1:49.85. This broke their own school record set in 2018 by almost five seconds.

Congratulations to the team on an outstanding season.

Rowing Their Way to Nationals
Lakehill rowers with Dallas United Crew had a fantastic showing at the Central Youth Championships on May 4-5, in Oklahoma City.

Senior Connor Alexander and junior Anders Ekstrom earned the silver medal in the Men's Varsity 8+. Eighth grader Mars Henderson earned a bronze medal in the JV Women's 4+.

The Central Youth Championships hosts nearly 1,000 athletes representing 330 crews from 26 teams from across Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arkansas, and Kansas. The 2,000-meter event is held at the USRowing National High Performance Center on the Oklahoma River.

Both Alexander and Ekstrom will now advance to the 2019 Youth National Championships, held June 6-9, 2019, in Sarasota, Florida. The championships, which serve as the premier youth rowing event in the United States, see approximately 1,500 athletes competing in more than 350 crews, representing some 150 teams from across the country – all vying for national titles in 18 boat classes.

Congratulations to our rowers on a great season, and good luck at Nationals!

Sounds of Spring
Lakehill Preparatory School's Middle and Upper School Choirs took the stage on May 2, for their final school performance of the year. The Spring Concert, featuring the vocal talents of sixth through twelfth grade students, was a beautiful and fitting end to a successful year.

The program featured a variety of performances by the Sixth and Seventh Grade Choir and the Lakehill Chorale.

A beautiful finale of "Imagine" by John Lennon marked the last performance for this year's senior Anna Somodevilla.

Performing Arts will celebrate seniors with a special dinner on May 10, followed by lunch in honor of Middle and Upper School performing arts students on May 13.

Read more about Somodevilla in this month's Advocate Magazine.

Celebrations and Service
Friday, May 3, was an amazing day of celebration for Middle School students and teachers. The group kicked off the morning with a Student Council-sponsored water drive, benefiting the SoupMobile. The 52 cases of water collected before school filled the yellow bus. The group then completed four service projects benefiting Austin Street Center (220 sandwiches), Dallas Animal Services (259 bandannas and toys for dogs and cats), CC Young (183 handmade flowers and Mother's Day cards), and Vogel Alcove (138 weekend healthy snack bags).

Afterward, they headed to Celebration Station, where they enjoyed an afternoon of food, fun, and friends.
Shoreline Service:Students Groups Pitch In
Forty-four seventh, eighth, and ninth grade members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) pitched in on April 27, to help clean-up Lakehill's adopted shoreline at White Rock Lake. Lakehill Girl Scout Troop 3435 added their efforts on May 4, while members of Lower and Middle School Community Connections Clubs and their families pitched in on May 7, for another Shoreline Spruce-Up.

Thanks to everyone who has helped maintain Lakehill's adopted shoreline over the past 11 years (that's 132 lake clean-ups and more than 4,000 hours of service!). Lakehill's Community Connections campers will maintain the lake over the summer. Make plans to join us at the first Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-Up for 2019-20 on September 14, at 9:00 a.m.
