What's Happening at TRCS
A MESSAGE FROM NIC CHAPIN
|
Happy Friday to everyone! It was a great second week at TRCS. I would like to thank everybody who came to the parent gathering and new parent Q & A. We had a wonderful turnout and we had a great time meeting with all of the families! We ended the week with our final day of our baseball unit. It was so great to watch all the students support each other. The staff had a blast forming a team and playing against the students! We wrapped up the baseball unit with rocket popsicles and stickers from the Portland Diamond Project. A special thank you to the awesome staff at the Diamond Project for our MLB to PDX swag!
I want to remind parents that new student conferences are Friday, September 20th.
Sign ups are available now. Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents of new students at these conferences and sharing the assessments we have been working on over the past couple of weeks. We hope to see students at these conferences as well! Conferences for returning students will be in October, with sign ups coming soon.
Please remember to stagger arrivals for dismissal pick up. We try very hard to avoid a back up on Ek Road, so please consider coming at 3:20-3:25 for pick up. It is our goal to get all students safely in their cars at the end of the day and we appreciate your cooperation in making the end of the day smooth for everyone!
Compassion thought of the week: One of the world’s greatest thinkers had this to say about compassion: “Our task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” -Albert Einstein
I hope the entire TRCS community has a great weekend! See you Monday!

As the new school year starts, the Oregon Immunization Program would like to announce that there is a new version of the Vaccine Education Module for parents/guardians wanting to claim a nonmedical exemption to school immunization requirements.
Major changes include:
- The certificate looks different.
- The content has been refreshed, based on feedback received in the voluntary survey at the end of the module.
- The module may now be viewed on mobile devices, including phones and tablets using iOS or Android.
- The certificate is now downloaded as a PDF that may be saved or printed. FAQs about downloading the certificate are available.
What has stayed the same:
- There are no saved copies of the certificate for people who lose it or cannot find it.
- The module will not save the user’s place if they close out of the browser.
- The format is the same, and users need to watch the section about each vaccine they are exempting their child from.
Parents need to submit two pieces of documentation to their school or child care to claim a nonmedical exemption: 1. Vaccine Education Certificate (printed from the online module or completed by a health care practitioner), and 2. Certificate of Immunization Status with the nonmedical exemption section completed and signed.
If you have questions or comments about the new online module, please share these with the Oregon Immunization Program at

Our
after school care program
has begun! In 2019-20, we will offer after school supervision for students on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 5:00 pm if school is in session. Teachers are
not
available during this time for tutoring. It is a quiet work time for students to catch up on homework or read a book. Please contact
the office
for more information on this program, especially if you are planning on your student staying after school!

Every year the Oregon Department of Education requires us to send out income surveys. The Household Income Survey can be found
here
. This allows the state to collect information to determine economically disadvantaged students for accountability reporting (see guidelines
here
). This information is kept confidential and anonymous. The data is essential for our school in calculating comparison schools on the school report card and may have future funding implications around students experiencing poverty and grant opportunities. Please complete and return to the office by September 20th. This form is general and does not require you to put down specific numbers in regards to family income. While the survey is optional, it will help us gather accurate information for the state. Thank you. If you already filled one out, we really appreciate it!

We strive to keep the dismissal line of cars moving smoothly and efficiently, with safety always at the forefront of our minds. We appreciate the patience of all drivers as we establish the routine of daily student pick ups. Here are some tips to help keep things moving quickly:
- Stagger your arrival! To avoid back up onto Ek, we need drivers to NOT come early! While we begin to put students in cars promptly at 3:15 pm, we are outside until 3:30. Consider arriving at 3:20-3:25 to miss the early rush!
- Picking up three or more students? Please park down in the gravel. A teacher will dismiss carpool groups to your car and you can use the outside lane to exit the driveway.
- Picking up one or two students? Please use the inside lane and pull as far forward as you can when you get to the door area where students are waiting.
- At the driveway entrance if you are picking up at the front door stick to the inside lane just to the parking lot. This will keep the outside lane open for carpool drivers to make it to the gravel lot and help prevent a back up on Ek Road.
