The
Wave
January 17, 2020
Happy Friday! It has been another great week at TRCS. It was mid-terms and MAP testing week, which had the potential of causing some stress around the school. However, our staff and students have done a fantastic job managing it all. It is wonderful to see all the growth that has happened since the fall. Great job, TRCS! Penny Wars has been a big hit this week. It is great to see our students so excited to raise money for new recess equipment. We have two more weeks before the winning grade level starts to pick out new equipment with the funds raised!

I am looking forward to the upcoming swimming week. We are going to have so much fun! Please make sure your student brings a towel, well-fitting swimwear, and a plastic bag each day to bring home wet suits and towels!

Compassion thought of the week: As we go into MLK weekend, I wanted to send you one of my favorite quotes from MLK as we celebrate his day. He said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” This is so simple yet has the power to change the world.

I hope you have an excellent three day weekend and we will see everybody on Tuesday.

TRCS is participating in the Scripps Spelling Bee again this year! The competition will begin in each grade level's Language Arts class with classroom spelling bees on January 24th. The top two spellers in each class will compete in the all school spelling bee on February 5th. Students can find a list of practice words in the all school Google Classroom. The winner of the all school bee will go on to compete in the Portland Regional Scripps Spelling Bee on March 14th at the Hollywood Theatre beginning at 9:00 am! Click here for more information.
We are excited to announce that we are hosting a Penny War here at TRCS. The "war" will run now through January 30th. Pennies are "positive" for each individual grade level and "silver" coins are negative points for OTHER grades. All proceeds from our penny war go to support purchasing new recess equipment. The winning grade level gets to help select equipment to be purchased. This is designed to be a friendly and fun competition between the grade levels!
We are now accepting applications for outdoor school counselors! This year we will be heading to Camp Tapawingo, outside of Salem, March 9th - 13th, 2020. If you know any high school juniors, seniors, or possibly sophomores who would be a great candidate please have them fill out an application. We will be accepting applications until January 31st, 2020. The application can be found on our website and by clicking here . This is a great opportunity for high school students to gain experience for job and college applications!
Friday, January 31st is a no school day and we have the opportunity for students to attend a class at TRCS from Engineering for Kids , which introduces kids
to the fun aspects of science, technology, engineering, art and math. There are two classes offered: for 4th and 5th graders - LEGO EV3 Robotics: Robo Battles and for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders - LEGO EV3 Robotics: DaVinci's Designs . Please note, this is not a school sponsored event. All registration, supervision, and curriculum is provided by Engineering for Kids. Please direct all questions to them.
Don't forget - next week, we will be heading to the  North Clackamas Aquatic Center  for four days of PE fun in the pool . The curriculum includes obstacle courses, water polo, water basketball, relay races and of course, our favorite - the wave pool and slides.  See our school schedule for the week.  Please check your child's swimsuit and make sure it still fits. This is the time for a well-fitting, modest, one piece suit, or one that is meant for swimming (not sunning). We can only accept signed doctor notes for not joining in the fun! Please bring a suit, clean towel, and a plastic bag for wet items to school each day!
Our last fundraiser for ODS is here! Our See's Candies Valentine Fundraiser has begun. Please have your student stop by the office for an order packet if they are interested in participating. All orders and payments must be received by January 30th due to deadlines from the company. 7th and 8th grade students can earn money off of the ODS fee of $450. All students can participate in this fundraiser. If 4th and 5th graders would like to participate, they can earn money towards the 4/5 week activity fee. Please note, this fundraiser is optional.
Please plan on joining us Thursday, January 30th at 6:00 pm for the 2020 State of the School meeting. Come and hear about upcoming events, Student Success Act, board goals/strategic plan, outdoor school and 4/5 week. We ask that at least one representative from each family attend, and that students stay at home. This is a time to stop mid-year to see where we have been and where we are going. We are looking for a few volunteers to bring in baked goods that we can serve at the meeting. Please email the office if you can help us out!
Wondering what events are happening in our community? Look no further, here is the link to the West Linn-Wilsonville Community Board. This is regularly updated by the district and all activities must be approved for posting by WLWV. For example, you can learn about the WLWV's Dual Language Program - Registration Open Through January 31. They offer a Spanish-English Dual Language program in two of its primary schools: Trillium Creek Primary School in West Linn and Lowrie Primary School in Wilsonville.
