What's Happening at TRCS
A MESSAGE FROM NIC CHAPIN
|
Happy Friday! The fall weather is upon us! While the fall colors are amazing, it is starting to get cooler, so please make sure that our kids have jackets or coats that will keep them warm and dry during outdoor recess. Remember we try to get outside as much as possible, even in the rain.
It is Fun Run time! Our Board wanted to continue this tradition and provide an opportunity for our community to support and improve our program each year. Last year, we raised the money to purchase the Gaga Ball pit and safety supplies for each classroom. There is more information below on this year's goal. I hope that you will come join us on the October 25th to volunteer or even run with your kids! Who knows, maybe your own friends and family will make a pledge for you! I plan on running and trying to get more laps than last year! So come join us as we continue to make TRCS an amazing place to be!
During Back to School Night, I spoke briefly about our state test scores from last year. For those of you that did not make it out, I wanted to share how we did. In Language Arts, 91% of our students passed or exceeded. Across the state, the average was 53.4%. In Math, 95% of our students passed or exceeded. The state average was 39. 4%. This was a 12% improvement for us as a school. Our students and teachers should be very proud of these results. They are fantastic!
Compassion thought if the week: Prince once said: “
Compassion is an action word with no boundaries.” I challenge us this weekend to focus on compassion with action. Look for ways to show compassion to others.
Have a great weekend and we will see everybody on Friday!

This is a place to post activities on Fridays, please email
the office
if you have activities you would like to add!
Hike around Portland - Younger kids might enjoy adventuring around
Hoyt Arboretum
,
which has a variety of walks and trails, including a 1-mile paved path that is suitable for strollers.
Tryon Creek State Natural Area
has plenty of nature trails and activity sheets that families can print online and take with them to enhance the experience. Kids will also love trying the scavenger hunt as they explore the flora and fauna of the
Leach Botanical Garden
. Print the
scavenger hunt
from the Garden’s website, access it on your phone or pick up a laminated copy in the gift shop when you arrive.
Oregon Historical Society
- For history buffs, the Oregon Historical Society awaits you. Located downtown the museum houses a variety of exhibits designed to bring Oregon’s history to life. The permanent History Hub exhibit, with content that spans K-12 with a focus on 4th-8th graders, delves into the topic of diversity, with hands-on activities and displays.
Oregon Rail Heritage Museum
- If you’ve got train lovers, be sure to make a stop at this awesome space in SE Portland. Railroad enthusiasts can check out historic trains and browse the latest exhibit. Admission is always free, although donations are accepted and appreciated. The center is open Thursday- Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

We are 3% to our goal! We have made $13.90 since Back to School Night. This week we had two families drop off blue bags. Thank you to the Britt and Williams families! Remember, you can drop off your blue bags at drop-off or pick-up and we will take them to a Bottle Drop Center. Or you can drop off the bags yourselves (just remember to use our bags!). We have blue bags available if you want more! Stay tuned to this space for weekly updates!

Everyone that has a student at TRCS is a part of the TRCS parent group! Wondering how you can get involved, meet other parents, and have some fun along the way? Please look at the
calendar of events
and contact
Karen Gault
if you would like participate in the planning of any of these events. We are still looking for a couple of co-chairs for Friendsgiving in November and the Grandparent's Day Pancake Breakfast in February. We are also looking for the DJ for the Fun Run in October. We discussed having class representatives for each grade level to help with coordinating communications and possibly arranging some grade level socials. Please keep a watch out for upcoming event planning meetings!

As many of your know, the Scrip Center out of the Tigard-Tualatin School District closed in June. Since we used the Scrip program as an opportunity for families to individually fundraise towards the Outdoor School fees, we are looking for new ways to offer ODS fundraising for students.
We are asking all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents to take
this brief survey
to help us determine the most interest. We would love your opi
nion and welcome all suggestions. Thank you!

Each fall we update immunization records to stay in accordance with Clackamas County regulations. If your child has received booster shots or immunizations over the summer please let
the office
know. Additionally, if you decide to
opt out of immunizations
you must
watch the Vaccine Education Module for children in childcare, preschool, or K-12 and print out the Vaccine Education Certificate at the end of the module. Then submit the certificate of completion to the school office. If you opt-out of immunizations, a new certificate of completion for the online module must be submitted each year.
All students need to have all
required shots or a medical or non-medical exemption to stay enrolled
before February 2020, prior to the state exclusion day.
