Rev. Scott Harbison
I have been doing a lot of reflection lately on what ministry means to me. This is my 20th year of ordained ministry and oftentimes I have to wonder what is the point to all this. Matter of fact, Carol Howard Merritt, a well know theologian type person, asked on Twitter, "I wonder how many pastors are doing their job because they can't think of anything else to do (and not in a good way)"? That made me reflect even more so on why I'm here and what does all this mean.

I honestly don't know. I believe in working with people and helping people and I believe in the importance of the church to a community but what does that say about my role or your role in this great drama called life? I believe we are called to show God's love and to proclaim the good news that through Christ all sin is forgiven, but every church says that.

Paul reminds us this week in our lectionary that we must keep the foundation of God's love for us through Christ as the cornerstone for all we do. I guess that's why I'm still here doing ministry. I love people and I love God and I love telling people about God's love for them. So join me in this wonderful journey, hopefully not just going through the motions, as we serve a God that loves all people very much.

Love,

Your plastic bags are needed! Please bring us your bags and help support our youth at Conclaves in March. For more information you can check out the flyer.

A Closing Prayer
O God, when we are anxious
   speak to us a word of peace.
When we are bewildered about which way to go
   speak to us a word of direction.
When we wonder about the meaning of life
  grant us wisdom and enough light to see one step ahead.
We are dependent upon you;
  open our eyes that we might see the glimpse of truth that you have for us.
Where we are wrong correct us,
  where we are right confirm us,
But give us a sense of adventure
  and the joy of the journey.  Amen.
