They will update us on how the group of 21 members assisted with day-to-day help while sending a message of support from our community.

It was a very important mission and much was learned which will be shared this Thursday.

Collectable Club Re-Starts with Meeting Wednesday

After a hiatus of several years, the Y's Men Collectable Club resumes operation this week under the leadership of Jon Fox.

The first meeting will be this Wednesday, February 28, at 9:00 am at the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

"Bring your collectable baseball or football cards, record albums, cassettes, or whatever you have," Jon says, "and let’s discuss why you have it, what it’s worth, and what you want to do with it. We’ll have fun and help you with ideas on how to sell them."

For additional information, contact Jon Fox at dorothyfox783@gmail.com

New Y's Men Chess Club Meets This Wednesday

Several Y's Men have indicated interest in joining a Chess Club, and Y's Man Manny Sousa is hosting the effort to launch this new activity. He's a chess novice who looks forward to having some fun while improving his skill.

The new Chess Club will meet this Wednesday, February 28 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm in Room 109 at the Church.

"I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas for how we can make this a great experience for all of us," Manny said. "Please let me know your level of interest - how much time you’d like to spend playing, and your approximate chess skill level (novice, intermediate, expert, or Grand Master). It also would be fun to learn how you got into the game."

The program will feature music for flute and harp, with Harpist Amy Berger and Flutist Elizabeth Mann. The musicians are top notch New York based players, and the program will feature a piece by Brian Keane, who has composed music for numerous PBS documentaries, films and television shows. This world premiere was written for Amy Berger.

Importantly, this concert will help further build the musical bridge between Westport and Orchestra LUMOS (formerly the Stamford Symphony).

Sam Disraelly spoke to Y's Men last Thursday about Cybersecurity Awaremess.

Be Aware and Wary in the Cyberworld

Cautions Cybersecurity Expert

Sam Disraelly, CEO of Your Tech Department LLC, spoke to Y’s Men last Thursday about Cybersecurity Awareness.

“Don’t go to sites you don’t know” and don’t provide your personal information because “Cybercriminals are getting increasingly creative” — and destructive.

He recommended that we graduate from a password to a “pass phrase,” a longer — and harder to crack way to keep out hackers — those we do not want to be able to access the private information each of us stores behind what we take to be a secure wall in our small space of the internet.

He noted two recent major hacks, one on the Eastern Connecticut Health site, the other at the New Haven Board of Education site. Both enabled access to private information.

He also noted that if a cybercriminal finds our information on a site such as the Robin Hood investing app he knows we have disposable income and we now become fair game.

So he cautioned us to be aware — and wary — when we access our information on the internet.
