Global Issues Discussion Group Meets Monday

The Global Issues Discussion Group (GIDG) will meet Monday, June 17 at 9:00 am in Room 203 at the Church. China will be the topic for discussion. Click the button below for an interesting article from The Wall Street Journal about Chinese activity in South America.

Tuesday Evening Picnics at Compo Beach

The traditional Y's Men Tuesday evening picnics at Compo Beach have begun and will continue through the summer.

Arranged by Y's Man Jon Fox, the gatherings take place on South Beach "642 feet to the right of the cannons." There is no need for a beach sticker. Simply tell them at the entrance that you are attending the Y's Men picnic. It begins about 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Bring your own chairs, finger food and your choice of beverage perhaps to share (no glass containers are allowed).

If weather is bad (too hot, too cold, rainy), Jon says, "Stay home. Otherwise, just come and enjoy." If additional information is needed, contact Jon by clicking here.

Thursday Morning Social Hour at Sherwood Island

Now that the business and guest speaker portions of the Thursday morning meetings are on summer hiatus, the social hour from 9:00 am to 10:00 am is held every Thursday at the Sherwood Island Pavilion.

Coffee, donuts and bagels are available beginning at 9:00 am every Thursday through August 29. Following the social hour, a walking group forms to tour Sherwood Island

Where: The Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport

We’ve obtained 100 tickets for this show at a discounted price of $90.00 each

Only 18 tickets now remain and we must receive reservations ASAP

November 15, 2024 through January 2025.

Y's Men Kayak Group Plans Outing to Cockenoe Island

The Y’s Men Kayak Group plans to paddle to Cockenoe Island next Friday (June 21) if weather permits. The Group will depart from the ramp near the kayak storage area on the west side of Compo Beach at 9:30 am. They expect to be out about one and a half to two hours. 

If you have a Kayak and would like to join the Group, please contact Walter Greene at wlgreene1@gmail.com so you can be added to the Group's email list.

Y's Men Backgammon Club Plans Summer Tournament

The Y's Men Backgammon Club, under the chairmanship of Woody Bliss, holds a tournament twice yearly. This year's Summer Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Weston Senior Activities Center at 9 School Road.

In play last Tuesday (June 11) Y's Man Gun Moen beat Woody Bliss 8-3. The Club meets every Tuesday throughout the year and welcomes new members. For further information contact Woody at woodybliss@optonline.net or 203-515-8535.
