No Gathering at Sherwood Island

Next Thursday; It's the 4th of July

There will be no gathering at Sherwood Island Pavilion next Thursday because of the 4th of July holiday. Coffee, donuts and bagels will resume the following Thursday (July 11) and will continue every Thursday morning through the summer from 9:00 to 10:00 am.

A special thank you to the Y's Men team that brings the refreshments to you. They are Bob Israely, Brian Baxendale and Lou Rolla.

Plan to attend the next Thursday morning get together. No reservations are needed. Just show up and enjoy the free refreshments and conversation.

Following the social hour, an optional walking group forms up to tour Sherwood Island.

Global Issues Discussion Group Meets This Monday

The Global Issues Discussion Group (GIDG) will meet this Monday (July 1) at 9:00 am in Room 203 at the Church. The Group plans to re-visit Ukraine and Gaza as the topics for discussion.

On the 161st Anniversary of the Event, Military Discussion Group Discusses the Battle of Gettysburg

The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pa., by Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war and is often described as the war's turning point.

On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Y's Men Military Discussion Group, led by Jon Fox, will meet at 10:00 am upstairs at the Saugatuck Congregational Church. The topic for discussion will be the Battle of Gettysburg, considered the bloodiest battle of the War.

Don't Miss Y's Men Tuesday Evening Picnics at Compo Beach

Summer wouldn't be summer without the Y's Men Tuesday evening picnics at Compo Beach.

Arranged by Y's Man Jon Fox, the gatherings take place on South Beach "642 feet to the right of the cannons." There is no need for a beach sticker. Simply tell them at the entrance that you are attending the Y's Men picnic. It begins about 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Bring your own chairs, finger food, and your choice of beverage perhaps to share (no glass containers are allowed).

If weather is bad (too hot, too cold, rainy), Jon says, "Stay home. Otherwise, just come and enjoy." If additional information is needed, contact Jon by clicking here.

Y's Men Annual Hot Dog Festival Set for Tuesday, July 23

Every Tuesday evening throughout the summer Y's Men and their spouses and guests gather at Compo Beach South for a picnic beginning about 4:30 to 5:00 pm. They bring their own food and beverages.

On Tuesday, July 23, however, the food will be provided free of charge. The main attraction will be hot dogs in a festival to raise money for Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang.

Details about the event will be announced in the near future.

Special guest Colin Kelly of the Conservation Department answers questions and explains the gas-powered leaf blower ordinance, objectives and restrictions.
