Orphenians Deliver a Beautiful Start to the Holiday Week

The Staples Orphenians, the elite vocal ensemble from Staples High School, sang a beautiful holiday a cappella concert for the Y’s Men last Thursday, featuring a selection of musical highlights from the annual Candlelight Concert, as well as some traditional standards of the season.

They performed extraordinarily under the direction of Lauren Pine, musical director, in the Sanctuary of the Saugatuck Congregational Church

More Details Provided for January 7 Trip to Pequot Museum

A Y's Men trip to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center is planned for Tuesday, January 7. Participants are expected to arrive at the Museum, located in Mashantucket, Conn., about 10:30 am.

While information about the trip has been circulated, even more detailed material is provided by clicking here.

Any Interest in Forming an Activity in Mindfulness?

Paul Epstein recently joined the Y’s Men and would like to start a mindfulness group.

He says that "there is a growing body of research on the benefits of mindfulness for health, healing, and happiness. If there’s enough interest, we can figure out the details together.

"For instance, we might start with a period of meditation followed by a discussion of various teachings. We could then end each session by exploring ways to integrate mindfulness into our daily lives."

He suggests that a first meeting could be held at his home. Paul has taught mindfulness for 50 years, including at the Westport Center for Senior Activities. He also is the author of Happiness through Meditation.

About 140 Y's Men and Guests Attend Annual Holiday Party

Last Thursday’s annual Y's Men Holiday Party brought about 140 Y's Men and guests to The Patterson Club in Fairfield. Besides food and drink, the group was entertained by DNR, the rock band made up of almost all physicians and featuring our own Y's Man Bob Altbaum, MD.

Thanks to Dewey Loselle, the event organizer, for introducing a system that expedited check-in and bar tickets.
